Isn't voice chat recording unconstitutional?

As an expansion on this:

There are still regulations they are beholden to- for example, they can’t ban you for being a certain race, gender, or religion. They’re just not required to follow regulations that apply specifically to the government.

“I haaaaaaaad a dream! That all toxic tweens could be free of repercussions in all of the online world.”

  • Martin Luther King maybe, I don’t know, probably oooh look at the kitty.

Edit: added kitty to make your day moar pawsitive.

It’s weird to see some folks worried about their privacy, yet likey have Instagram or TikTok accounts.

God the number of delusional people. No. Most of the constitution protects you from the government. Not from companies.

While I personally don’t link things like Siri and Google Home because I don’t like the idea of the device always listening to you all the time, I actually don’t object to Blizzard recording your voice in Overwatch.

This is because:

  • They only record your voice when you are voice-chatting anyway - they aren’t recording anything that’s not being sent to everyone in the game already.
  • If you use push-to-chat, your voice doesn’t get recorded when you don’t push the chat button.
  • Any of your teammates can already record your voice or stream it to Twitch or whatever.

Essentially, as far as I’m concerned, there was never any illusion of privacy with Overwatch voice chat; I’d always considered everything I say in voice chat to be public already.

It’s not because YOU accept the terms and conditions.

If you don’t like that or are against it, you don’t accept the terms and conditions, you won’t play the game tho

those schools were absolutely being perverts and turning the cameras on AFTER class hours/recording what you were doing OUTSIDE school apps on that laptop. Nothing prevents ANY company from recording what you do while using THEIR app, so long as it’s in the EULA and there’s a reasonable privacy accomodation through rapid destruction of recordings. Blizzard made clear the recordings are destroyed as soon as they’re auto-transcribed, and then the transcriptions themselves destroyed after a short delay.

You do know that your voice is already getting registered all days from mics and phones for ads studies.
Blizzard says your voice won’t be sold, won’t be saved and will be eliminated after the voice to chat verification.
As long as you don’t use voice chat then get reported you won’t get registered

Um, WHAT??? The government can record your voice too, as long as you consent. Just like you are consenting to allow blizzard to record your voice. But, NO, Blizzard cannot record you without your consent. Why in the world would you think blizzard is above the law?

But, NO, Blizzard cannot record you without your consent.

You consent to the recording by accepting their TOU.

Why in the world would you think blizzard is above the law?

LOL What fairy tale world do YOU live in? Haven’t you read the memo? All corporations are above the law - they WRITE the laws! I could go on for hours about corruption and bribery and how our government works - but I think I’ve made my point.

(I mean sure “technically” they’re not above the law but I think we’ve all seen by now how that works in practice…)

In a sensible world, it should be. We are not a sensible world. Many here beg for their rights to be taken away.

You have to go to school in some form, you don’t have to play Overwatch so no this isn’t a comparable at all

I also feel like it’s skeezy. Leaning into a corporate dystopia because sometimes, people on the Internet say a Mean Word.

Isn’t voice chat recording unconstitutional?

Blizz is not the government.

Unless you mean goes against the spirit of free speech, but it’s not literally unconstitutional because Blizz isn’t bound by the constitution.

Terms and services are not binding if they’re illegal. An entity can’t just put whatever they want into one as a gotcha!!! And get whatever they want

For example if my landlord puts in the lease agreement that they get my first born son if I break lease early, they do not in fact get that even though I agreed to it. Because that’s illegal. A corporation can put whatever they want in a ToS, but only the legally binding bits are valid. You can’t voluntarily give up your rights, that’s what makes them inalienable.

Not applicable here but I find it frustrating that people think signing an agreement gives others carte blanche to do what they please.

I think if they are upfront about it, and as they say, delete them after a month (at the most), they might be in the clear. But that is US rules, I do not know how strict Europe will be with that. Here they REALLY do not like privacy-infringing things, so I do not know if this crosses a line for Blizzard.

These people are the first ones to be offended when you call them out on it to. We need more means worlds against those that are hurting things.

Reminds me of the Trump Conservatives wailing about “Civility” as they locked children in cages at the border.

some people need to be talked down when it hurts the rest of us.

Probably better just to call them a joke and walk away. Treat them like a joke, don’t get triggered.

Private entity vs public.

Public schools can’t require recording in your house to attend. That is straight up a major violation of the 4th amendment.

Private schools can require that all they like.

And ActiBlizz can as well. If you don’t like it, you can just not play their game.
