i dont want to sound arrogant but excluding the rest of the world i am by far the best tank player ever, but wrecking ball and winston are characters i have never been able to play well, is winston difficult to use or do i just suck with him?(i am thinking both) i can play most tanks pretty well apart from him so its not like i dont know how to tank but i dont know how to winston
plus his ult seems very easy to feet with and do nothing else, i am not asking for tips to get better but i am just curious on the difficulty scale where does he land?
Winston is all about timing, positioning, knowing what you can get away with, knowing what you’re jumping in to do, knowing your escapes, knowing the enemy cooldowns, knowing what teammates are backing you up, knowing when to get the kill, knowing when to stall with your ult, knowing when to kill with your ult, knowing how your opponent likes to bubble dance, knowing how much attention to you your healer is paying, and finally knowing how to spam the voice clip OH YEAH!
These are the things you need to work on to be a true monkey.
Winston is, to me, one of the more difficult tanks to play well.
He is very unforgiving if you get your positioning wrong. His ult is more demanding the most to make a good impact with. His shield feels kinda lacklustre a lot of the time as its so big it gets trashed super fast by competent opposition.
He is also quite a lot more reliant on team-mates than most tanks. To stay in the mix you need decent healing (all Zenyatta’s out there, i love you!)
In my opinion, no. He has a pretty medium level skill floor. Still higher than Rein and Orisa though, probably.
He is considered (indirectly quoting pros here) to have the highest skill ceiling in the game, however. Maybe you’re not bad at Winston but rather just godlike at all the other tanks making your Monkey appear bad in comparison…
With Winston you have to be aware of the enemy back line when you see a healer out of position you punish them, dot stay in the choke trying to kill a Reinhardt
No joke, Winston is one of the hardest characters to master.
We can talk about aim until the cows come home, Winston takes 110% of everything else, and that’s before you try to juggle and discover even higher skill ceiling.
Give him a try then. If it’s Brigitte like, you shouldn’t have any issue reaching GM with him right ?

Winston mains will be able to come up with arguments. What are yours ? Since there’s some arguments already there in that post. Just the left click thing ? Something else or you run out ?
“Basically brig before she was released” : The only thing in common they have is the close range
“Just walk forward and hold m1 on people” : Hell no. You dont walk, you jump and when you land, you are supposed to cut off the victim’s escape routes so its never forward, more like from the back or to the side. Walking forward gives your head hitbox, you have to sway.
“you have to rely on your team to heal or bubble you” : Not really. You have your own bubble, so use it, dance around, get the kill and then jump back to safety. Its one of the most mobile tanks just for that, not relying on bubbles or immediate heals.
Mate you are waaaay way way off with this character.
Lol what a guy. Like I said salty freaking Winston all mad cause they lose in a battle of left clicks to another hero.
I’m a tank main, so yes I play winston. I also play brig and they are both just as easy. Its just the fact that brigs left clicks counters Winston left clicks and we all know instead of swapping we’re just gonna keep playing Winston into it.
I’m talking about you need a heal/bubble if Winston is attacking you or you’re flat out dead. However enter Brigitte and now “The game is ruined” because scrubs can’t feed their brains out and hold left click onto people anymore. Now when they feed, they feed inspire.
