On my road trip to master, i’ve encounter many widowmaker. I feel like they are the most oppressing dps in the game ahead of tracer. In map like Circuit Royal, Junkertown, Numbani. They feel encounterable if you don’t have a tank to dive her. The facts that if any shooter shoots her and can get one shot is really problematic. I had a game in capture the point where the widow was playing againt’s a dive comp and destroying them with the most cheesiest one shot.
I don’t know if im the only one thinking that there’s not much counter play for her right now.
Depends upon the rank and the group you are playing against. Im at over 1,000 Hours on the Character and there needs to be changes for sure!
If it is a Solo Pug group. That widow isn’t going to be that big of a problem. If it is a premade team. Absolutely 100% a problem.
Widowmaker needs adjustments so that way she works with the game better.
1 ) Headshot crits absolutely need to be DIALED back by 10%
2 ) Crit multiplier on fully charged shots needs to be turned down.
3 ) There should be a negative reward for attacking another widowmaker (like a -10% Damage reduction multiplier). Forcing widow players to attack and defend the objective. VS playing “sniper vs sniper RDM’ing B-list war movie simulator dualing”.
4 ) HP should be 210hp.
5 ) Hook should be 7 seconds.
6 ) I think venom mine should apply CC .
7 ) I do think an ability to pierce shields should be something that is on a CD, so that way it makes up for the character being a “semi throw pick” at certain times.
8 ) Ammo should be reduced to 25.
9 ) SMG Should have a damage increase of 4%.
I guess my reasons are for: breaking shields , removing insta-crits and discouraging dueling by players. So they actually have to play the objective. Especially since with how the character is set now. She is designed to play behind her team, and if there is no way flankers can move in and counter her. Its unreasonable to not give the Widow player a chance to make risky choices and be open to flanking and attacks.
I feel like it’s more so the map pool this season heavily favors her, they’re getting rid of it next season thank god. It’s like they intentionally wanted her to be good this season, like to list it off we got Havana, Circuit royal, Junkertown, Numbani, Kings Row, Colosseo, and Illios.
The maps which are sniper maps are just TOO sniper friendly. Sure have maps with good spots for snipers, but don’t make a whole map where widow will always be picked and, more often than not, the other DPS will be hanzo or ashe. Games with 1-shots are pretty unfun, but maps which leads to 2 1-shots being picked much of the time are just garbage and some of the most hated maps in the game.
The issue isn’t Widowmaker. It’s that the Overwatch playerbase isn’t ready for a skill-based hero like Widow that requires using your noggin’ to counter. Most people expect to be able to press H to win. Widow isn’t so simple. She requires you to think, and Overwatch players are kind of lazy, so they don’t like doing that…
If Hog was a problem, Widow is objectively a game breaking issue. That being said, I do not really believe Hog was a problem. And neither do the stats.

I think its fairly safe to say widow is currently an issue even though its cuz the game changed so much around her it doesn’t really change that for now
Just stop running in straight lines when you know they have a Widow and stop taking the main path to get to the point. That’s what a Widow wants. She can be countered by every single hero in the game if they know what they’re doing.
Unfortunately, the Overwatch playerbase is both lazy and stupid, so they don’t wanna keep ‘they have a Widow’ in the back of their head 24/7 and adjust their playstyle accordingly.
Now do Circuit Royal,Havana and Junkertown. The maps allow Widow to sit at a range where nothing can get close to her without being in her LOS. Yes, it’s predominantly a high rank issue but saying “she can be countered by every single hero” is as wrong as it’s possible to get. She gets mirrored on these maps for a reason.
You can also bait and dodge shots from histscan heroes. You have to stop thinking of it as “an instant ray I can’t really dodge” and more of “A human shooter I can fool into missing”.
I’d argue Hog was as problem, in terms of making sure gameplay isn’t overly frustrating which leads to lower overall player retention. And I’m fine with that “for the greater good” logic.
But it comes off as hypocritical if that same logic isn’t applied to snipers.
Going from hiding behind barrier spam most the game, to hiding behind walls most the game, isn’t this big improvement 5v5 was supposed to be offering.
That’s boring. Slow. And offers very little counterplay.
Except that hero is still 40m outside of everyones effective range and in high ranks she will be blowing peoples heads off. “Just bait the shot” isn’t a viable strat when against good opponents.
Again, she’s mirrored for a reason. Sigma is basically mandatory on these maps for a reason. Etc.
She’s mirrored because the Overwatch community is notoriously lazy and stupid and enjoy being a bunch of mentally challenged parasites to humanity. Even a problem in GM.
If you think gm+ isn’t filled with players who will play whatever is the most consistent way to win then I don’t know what to tell you.
Widow gets mirrored on these maps because nothing else is even close to being consistent enough to deal with the other teams Widow and if you don’t deal with her you just lose. It’s that simple.
If maps such as Circuit Royal aren’t going to be heavily reworked it’s absolutely a balance problem. On those maps she’s for all intents and purposes a must pick in high ranks.
