Is venom mine useful

I get that it’s nice to put it on stairwells to know if the enemy is behind you but with the addition of echo it has become less useful. Now that we have to flying characters that can get up to ledges easily, venom mind doesn’t have much of a use unless you place it in a group of people to do minor damage to all of them.

Imagine that blizzard buffs it so it tracks down enemies and explodes. They can also be killed like junkrat a tires.

It’s only usefull if you often have tunnel vision, just to warn you if someone is flanking.
Other then that, venom mine is one of the most useless abilities in the game.

No, not really, theres a really cool trick you can do.

More about it can be found here

I would scream like a little girl and Alt-F4 if I saw that thing crawling after me.

I always imagined that thing acting like the mines from Sgt. Hammer in Heroes of the Storm. When enemies get close, the mine becomes alive and crawls like a spider towards you and explodes on contact.

And the idea is practically good enough to work. Spider mines as is are meant to show you where people are at and in this case, people would end up exposing themselves regardless as they try to avoid the mine.

Yes, it’s good for covering flank routes the enemy might be taking.

Unless they changed it, you can use it to practically cheat at widow duels by putting it on a wall in front of you that you’re using to peek from. The enemy widow will hit it with their first shot but your own shot ignores it.

Back in 2016 there was a thread with a bunch of suggestions for Widow and I remember making that suggestion. It was a popular thread with lots of participation and replies that stayed there for months and got bumped a few times I think. That was before Ana came out I think, in the fresh months of the game.

But the idea never took off with the Dev Team I guess. So much for the ‘Widowmaker is based off of the Black Widow spider’ concept outside of her using a grappling hook, because of course a grappling hook is very synonymous with spiders (we have some garden spiders around here moving around from the roof of our home to the next one with its little grappling hook, it’s very adorable but we have to look at it very carefully since it’s so small).

My first thought was a but scarier IMO. imagine if her tattoo jumps of her back during the ability and runs twards you. It’s just a black long-legged thin spider.

Considering that it only works correctly a third of the time, not really. I can usually hear people coming before they trigger the mine. Its only good for trying to kill Genji or Tracer.

Honestly her abilities atm needs work but well see what happens in the future.

i.e. her counters? She has 300dps headshots for the rest. It’s a good ability

Its helpful against those two heroes but it doesn’t really make or break the fight when 1v1ing anyone else. Also, I am still likely to die even if Tracer or Genji trigger the mine. The walls is nice but that part of the ability often doesn’t even work.

It’s useful both as an alert and a vision. But if a hero’s HP is low, Venom mine is useful for killing them.

I mean, the extra damage can help you combat an ambush, and you can also see enemies damaged by it through walls so, I’d say its a pretty solid ability.

I usually place the mine near me in case I get dived on by Genji/Tracer. The damage from the mine/smg’ing them down most of the time kills them or makes them retreat.

Tho, there is the chance they blink/wall climb to your location and avoid your venom mine.

Venom mine is an ability that I think works fine for Widow but sweet Mercy is that cooldown absurdly long.

I feel like it’s not as great as some other Dps abilities. Ashe is able to have both a mobility ability and a better version of venom mine.
