Saw an interesting small YT short about Kiriko, the amount of skins she’s gotten since it being released, and a few other changes regarding UI. The title is a reference to something the poster mentioned and it got me thinking. Do you think Blizzard could be trying to push Kiriko as the new face of OW? Or do you think that’s just a nonsensical conspiracy?

Probably. If not replacing Tracer as the face of OW then Kiriko has at least definitely replaced Dva as the game’s premier waifu bait character.

The amount of Kiri-kreep has begun to koncern me as well. I don’t like it when stuff I like is popular. It shatters my delusion that I’m cool and underground.

It’s just marketing.
We all have ‘our’ Overwatch poster girl or poster boy. For me it’s Widowmaker, for someone else out there it’s Roadhog. Same for say, the Mortal Kombat franchise, for some it’s Sub-Zero, for others it’s Scorpion or Baraka; for the company it’s whatever they decide to use for marketing the product. For Nintendo some people think it’s Mario, for some it’s Princess Peach…
It’s all a matter of preferences when it comes to ‘face of’ X game franchise.

dva, over the entire history of the game, has been the most googled character… and kiriko is literally a dva clone with genji/weeb aesthetic

Tracer was overly pushed in the very beginning, there was backlash, it balanced out. She’s still gotten plenty of stuff and an entire comic series to herself not so long ago though. Kiriko is pretty solidly the most popular and easily marketed new hero for the masses, so yeah, she does seem to be being used as the face for pushing OW2 as a fresh product.
As far as lore though, Kiriko shows zero signs of ever even showing up in much capacity. Winston’s still the center of everything, and if anything, out of the new blood, Brigitte is the one solidly front-lining.

Kiriko is a Fortnite character designed with 15-year-olds in mind. I think she was calculated to be at the forefront of the F2P era.

100%. Tracer was OW1, and they (I assume) planned Sojourn to be the face of OW2 (is the PS game icon for example), but…Kiriko realllllllllly turned that on it’s head.
Give it a year (or two) and she’ll somehow be the new de-facto leader of Overwatch in-story.
Tracer is still getting a skin regardless.
No. They are trying to push her as their money making machine.
I see more sojourn on posters than kiriko. They are still pushing for their selective “diversity”.
