Is this the only pvp with invisible character?

Iam just wondering what blizzard smoked. In 15 years i dont remember invisible character in any pvp shooter, correct me if iam wrong.

Anytime there is any invisibility in pvp like in crysis for example, its either cooldown or just camouflage, hard to see.

To have permanently completely invisible hero is just ridiculous, i believe she is definately most hated hero right now no? It always get toxic in chat because of sombra and no iam typing there, iam just a watcher.

I can handle any ability in the game, i can survive widow one shots even tho they are annoying, i can deal with spamrat and spamah but invisibility just doesnt belong in overwatch and never will

It’s hard to imagine Sombra without invisibility

Just keep shooting into empty chokes and flank routes, melee corners.
At least she comes out of invisibility when doing anything offensive.

well it depends what elo were talking. in high elo the most hated hero is the one thats meta and that everyone agrees on is not fun to play against (like mauga for example was)

and in lower elos, i can most definitely say that there, sombra is also not the most hated hero. probably in the top 5 though.

Ghillie suits in other shooters count.

For gods sake, Quake literally had invisibility. It’s not a brand new concept

Team Fortress 2, OW’s blatant inspiration, had one of the most notorious invisible characters in shooters. He even had different variations of invisibility.
The devs did mention at a Blizzcon or somewhere that they were aware of how tricky it is to put invisibility in a game like this. They did it anyway. And Sombra is OK, I think.

Spy’s so good at his job that the OP has never seen him.

one such a variation being Cloak and Dagger, which also lets you be invisible forever…

I dont know about Apex but Titanfall 2 has a Character with invisibility, But its not a 100% invisibility. Your still see an outline and a slight discoloration but often pretty hard to spot, but you can spot it, so its somewhat balanced.

Besides the Spy in TF2, you have Destiny2 Hunter with a specific trait/talent. Not perma like Sombra, thats true but well, there it is.

A other character would be sky in paladin.
And there are also many shooter games with pick ups that give you for a duration invisibility like the active camo of halo.

I am Sombra’s biggest hater, and the source of 90% of chat toxicity regarding Sombra. If she were a real person, I’d kick her in the balls.
I don’t know how other games managed invisibility with their own pvp franchises, but Sombra’s invisibility is disgustingly OP. It’s very poorly-managed.

Sombra could be a really cool hero if she were CAMOUFLAGED rather than outright invisible.

Give her a ‘distortion’ camouflage effect.
This would force Sombra players to actually WORK to be stealthy - rather than having free stealth insta-kills fall into their gormless laps.
While standing still, she would be almost completely invisible, with only minor warping to indicate her presence. Players would have to be very keen-eyed to spot her.
Distance would make her presence even more difficult to spot, but she would be easier to spot up-close (forcing her to actually WORK to get close enough to make one of her famous quick kills). If there is other movement on screen, players would almost certainly notice that first, rather than Sombra’s distortion on their screen, so a Sombra player could use other people’s movement to disguise herself further.
While moving, her distortion would be more obvious - so a keen-eyed player could potentially track her across the map. She would have to be smart about evading her followers and using distractions/distance to cloud herself, rather than simply getting out of range for long enough to turn totally invisible. Also, to get close enough to players to make one of her famous sneaky ‘insta kills’, Sombra would have to make use of her environment.

If this change were made, players might actually stand a chance of COUNTERING her.
Taking down a Sombra would be an actual demonstration of skill, rather than pure luck. Killing as Sombra would be a demonstration of skill, rather than pure cheese.

As is, I don’t really enjoy playing Overwatch anymore. She’s just too obnoxious. She’s in every single game. I really want to play other characters, but Moira is the only character I get to play much anymore, because she’s the only one who can escape Sombra with any consistency, and I’m so sick-to-death of Sombra kills.

To all my Sombra players out there:
You have weak wrists and your bloodline is impure.

They stole the idea from Paladins. And yes, Skye is just as annoying as sombra in that game as well.

But sky is not powerful in paladins because she only brings dps.
She has no teleport. She has no cc/hack. Her ultimate is very similar to d.va and you can dodge it.

Quake 3 arena had invisibilty power up.

Granted it’s a game from 1999 so its now 25 years old, but it’s still an iconic game that many arena shooters take inspiration from.

Paladins has a hero with almost perma invis. I think it was Skie (or something like that)

Also, overwatch leans heavily into moba. It is centered around abilities so much, that we can draw analogies from there.

Dota 2 and 1, Rikimaru and his perma invis (it was permanent invis in 1 i am not sure about 2)
League, Evelyn and her perma invis out of combat. It works exactly as the one Sombra have.
League, Twitch and his almost a full minute of stealth.
League, shaco and his brief stealth after blink.

There are plenty of invisible characters in pvp games.

well… it’s just a way of doing stealth in the game differently, it’s not the first game that “covers an enemy’s view”. in team fortress 2 the spy disguises himself as one of your companions. in Hereos of the storm we have countless invisible characters to move around the battlefield, to be discovered on the first action. in Valorant there are also too many abilities that cover the view all the time, and its a fps game :see_no_evil:.

Sombra has a few of these adaptive elements to approach. and in fact with the rework to perpetual invisibility they took away from her what in my opinion is an even more annoying ability: the immediate escape to any other part of the map where she placed the translocator. now it is more “dangerous” to approach because escape is not always easy to achieve without having an idea of where to launch the relocator, and this push appears to be certainly more daring… but also more exposed to danger when discovered, compared to before. :person_shrugging:

I find it quite inconsistent to accuse her of this trait when we have so many characters in other games who do much worse, in terms of “showing up”.

Quake Champion’s Nyx has an ability where she can evade by going invisible.

Already more than what Sombra brings
