I get people playing on steam aren’t the majority but 19k ppl playing during prime time on a saturday… rip. I hope Blizzard is proud of themselves.
What is with people today obsessed with size now?. I wish the only thing that end is this obsession.
I think most of the people that use steam for OW2 are overseas. Primetime for steam was 40k, and 12 hours ago.
Well when a game goes f2p player count becomes even more important. When a games population plummets and it is no longer as profitable the owners of the IP won’t be willing to spend as much money on support so the game will just kind of rot away. Video games are created to make money not because it gives the devs warm and fuzzies.
It was nowhere close to 40k I checked quite a few times because I thought it was odd that I queued all roles for like 6 games and only got tank once. Highest number I saw was 20k around 7pm.
24 hour peak is literally 40k though? It’s gone down over the past few months and especially recently with MR which isn’t surprising especially since this season isn’t really that exciting outside of 6v6 test
The daily peak is 40k. On the Steam statistics website you can find all the numbers.
But a 40k peak is still not that great. OW had better numbers on steam in the past, which means there is no growth.
Also don’t forget that Bnet is probably still the primary platform for OW players, which means that Steam is just a sample.
From the sample you can understand the trend but not the entire picture
Literally said that in my post. I’m just saying it’s not a good sign.
weird… I just looked and I see no dip in the numbers to indicate what you’re talking about? did you even look at steam charts?
Uh…

Er, you prob want this one Badger (basically game peaked in September and has been dropping since, but it does this).

Yeah you said it doesn’t represent all players, but you also said RIP. I responded by stating that the numbers were always low on Steam. It was peaking at 50-60k months ago, now it’s peaking at 40k.
So that’s not really RIP. That’s probably a 20% to 30% decrease since the MR release
I just looked at those pages I see the same 24 peak I always see over the months when ever I happen to check?
Nearly 10% drop just in the past 30 days.
True, it’s declining, and for a good reason: the core experience is bad. The devs are not even trying, or they are trying but they are highly incompetent.
Or a 3rd possibility is them needing more resources from Blizzard but Microsoft decided to keep the game in Maintenance mode and milk the remaining player base
No. This is not the end. Lets say this is the start of the end.
Yea I get that i’m just saying I was checking during prime time.
Prime time is different across the world.
Steam is an international platform. Some games are more popular in other regions of the world
I believe they are trying but it’s beyond the current teams capabilities. Anyone that had any real talent jumped ship from Blizzard a while ago.
From now on OW2 will be 50% less profitable to Blizzard. They’ll eventually stop adding new content soon or later.
MR has been out for 2 weeks. its far to early to tell. we dont know how they are going to balance the game, people are still placing in ranked so we don’t really know how the matchmaking is, most people are still actually learning the game so no real meta has fully formed yet.
but most importantly, overwatch is 8 years old, MR is a new game in the genre that overwatch has essentially had a monopoly on. people are trying the new thing
Your prime time is not everyone’s prime time. That’s why I said, I think that people that use steam for OW2 are mostly overseas (which is evident by the fact that it had double the amount of players 12 hours ago, during overseas prime time).
But…that doesn’t mean OW2 is dead or anything. In fact, more people are probably playing right now than were 12 hours ago (when steam was at 40k), even though steam is only at 20k right now. We just have no way to check that.
