Is there a reason Ana has the "witness me" voiceline over Junk or Hog?

This is something that has bugged me since she came out. I’d always assumed it was in reference to something other than Fury Road, but now that I’ve looked into it a little bit it doesn’t seem as if this is the case. So, I have to ask, is there some reason I’m not getting that Ana has this line over the blatantly Mad Max inspired Australian “junker” characters?

Could it be that they thought it would be a problem legally to have the Mad Max inspired heroes saying a Fury Road line? For those who don’t know, and probably owing in no small part to Jeff’s terminal boomerism, there are actually quite a few old school references in Overwatch like to Terminator’s skynet with the omnics(though the “good” omnics are probably Asimov inspired), Zarya has a reference to the Russian from Rocky, and Reaper references Predator. It just seems a little weird to me where they drew the line here when the game is basically a lovesong to other games and is so laden with references.

Side question about Ana that I don’t think anyone will know, but what the hell : Is the Shrike skin/part of Ana’s story inspired by the Hyperion Cantos? It’s one of my favorite books and I always think of it when I see that skin. It’s not how the Shrike is described, but just the fact that it’s kind of scifiey makes me think someone could have wanted to pay homage to Hyperion.

Edit: I found someone talking about it on the Reddit and they’re saying it’s because of an old lady in Mad Max. I want to say one of Immortan Joe’s old wives, but it just seems like kind of a weak connection. They’re both old women and that’s about it. Another person is saying it has to do with her Wadjet skin, but I’d always assumed that was a Tusken raider reference. It never even occurred to me that it could be a Junkertown thing.

Ana drew some inspiration from that movie at her conception stage iirc. Also why she was a wasteland skin

You do know that Jeff is GenX, right?

You do know boomer is a catch-all term for an older person, right?

Ah, didn’t know that first part. I thought the Wadjet skin was just Tusken inspired because they live on a desert planet and she’s Egyptian. Wadjet is an Egyptian goddess. It could be a reference to an Australian desert I suppose, but Egyptian makes more sense to me.

You do know that it has an actual definition?

A little tired of being 42 and being called a ‘boomer’ like I’m my own grandmother somehow.

Generation X, the forgotten children~

Sweet Jesus… Words can have multiple meanings.

They can. But Baby Boomer has an actual definition that does not include in any way, shape, or fashion, Generation X or older Millenials. It is defined by the year one was born, not by what some kid who wants to stick it to their mom wants to believe.

I’m 42, not 72. Deal with it.

If you think being in your 40’s makes you old, you’re going to be really shocked when you get there yourself.

It seems you don’t.

You’re welcome. Pay attention in school, kiddo.

I think you thinking that you’re imparting knowledge onto other people over an extremely basic fact that everyone knows says more about you than it does anyone else. Why don’t you go teach people what color the sky is, oh wise one.

If it was an extremely basic fact that everyone knows, the word wouldn’t be misused the way it is. When my friend’s 13 year old son calls her a Boomer, he really thinks she’s a Boomer, as he was unaware that Generation X even existed because of the misuse of the word.

The color of the sky is different on various days, as seen from various continents, during various weather, and at various times. It does not have one defining color or shade of blue. One might say that it has a range of shades, much like Baby Boomers have a range of years in which they were born.

Or maybe you just assume he doesn’t know what it is because you seem to think the concept of baby boomers is something that’s difficult to understand. I understood what gen x and baby boomers were when I was a kid. They’re not exactly difficult concepts, dude.

Yeah, I’m super impressed.

lmaoo get rolled

You should be, the sky is quite impressive, as is the science behind the reasons we perceive it as different colors under different circumstances. Light refraction and all that.

what are you colorblind its obviously pink

Well, there is the problem, they don’t remember.

Funny you should say that…

This was the sky outside my apartment on Christmas day around 4pm. I’d never seen it that particular color before. Wasn’t sure if it might be the apocalypse.

Because for some reasons, the Ana in my lobby are suicidal maniacs… just like dem War Boys

But in all seriousness, I have no idea

No, get over it. It specifically means someone who is older who is out of touch. It was a minor thing that everyone understood, but some obnoxious people on this forum have to make entirely unrelated things about them or because they think younger people don’t have the most insanely basic knowledge about what a baby boomer is when it’s something that’s taught in history class.

Your intelligence is blowing me away more and more with every word. Maybe you can elaborate on whether or not water is wet. I mean sometimes it freezes. Please, take this obvious rhetorical remark and go deep into it.

Edit: I’ll try to explain this better assuming you were actually commenting in good faith. The reason boomers are used as a meme for an awful/out of touch old person is because they generally had the post-war economic boom that made their lives easier. They’re generally seen as very bratty and arrogant people, but they like to act like every generation younger than them is just lazy even though they’re the ones who did and still are setting us on the course of massive global turmoil due to climate change and economic distress because of the outsourcing of manufacturing jobs.

It’s nothing against old people in general. It’s a term that has been co-opted so that we can have a negative association with a generation of people who have been extremely hostile toward younger generations.

She has what now? Why does it matter?
