The only counter to anything and anyone is “get good”. Just because you go pharah into junkrat for example doesn’t mean you automatically win. There are junkrat players that actually know how to easily take down pharah players all on their own. Anyone can outplay anything, at the end of the day it comes down to your skill as a player.
i understand that…but there are “generally known” counters to every character…that’s kind of what im looking for
Tell me what role you’re playing and who you’re going against and I’ll tell you what your best options are 
Everyone has different opinions on that, you aren’t gonna find the perfect counter list. My suggestion is to play the game and see for yourself what counters what. Another example is everyone can agree zarya hard counters dva but if the dva knows how to keep their distance and only go after flankers or snipers then zarya is basically useless against a good dva. It really does come down to skill.
actually, you make a lot of sense, and now that i think about it…it really doesnt matter. im basically a bronze level player who plays quick play, and there are so many high end players stacking in QP it seems that, counter picking really is just a pointless thing.

Ye sure, try to play Dva into Zarya. There is no get good for that if you play dva, even if you’re top level, If you play dva into zarya is asking tolose.
There are only a few “hard counters” in the game and I wouldn’t focus on having a hero pool wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle if you’re trying to actually learn the game. Focus on a few flexible heroes you’re good at instead of praying your counter pick works. Most players that play into counters are probably better at that match up than the person who swaps to it every few games.

It’s not so black and white there are maps where DVA will get more value than a zarya trying to counter the DVA
Dude each time I barely do good as Dva someone go Zarya, there is not a single map where Dva is better than Zarya until Zarya play with a monitor off-
Maps with lots of elevation you can abuse to go past the zarya and onto squishies
Sure, and then she will bubble them from Narnia and when you go on squishies she beam you like butter. please.
sage advice…for someone like myself who doesnt have gobs of time to play…i suppose i need to work on maybe 2 heroes and just hope they work in any given situation.
use common sense. if genji cant reflect beams, go sym, or moira, or mei. if theres an orisa, go zarya. if theres a widow, use reaper or ashe. it really aint hard to think deeper.

People act like counter picking is an automatic i win button, Its not.
At best its a way to mitigate skill gaps.
Just because you counter pick another hero doesnt automatically make you win…
The doom orisa match up is a prime example of this… orisa counters doom… a good doom player can easily win this match up, by taking out her backline, where she can’t do much to comtest due to her low mobility…
Skill can always overcome a counter pick…
Ive had entire teams swap to hitscans to deal with me on pharah and still not be able to do anything…
what if the orisa is gatekeeping the backline 
what if the backline and dps still survive and maybe kill you? ‘bUt tHaT’s a sKiLL iSsUe!’. It is not a skill issue btw, its just that sometimes people have better decision making and preparations. Skill can overcome a counterpick, thats true, but in a high ranked game, skill is not effective since theres people of your skill (most likely).
Considering orisa is the lowest mobility tank in the game the only that happens is if the fight is already won and its just clean up…
If your a backline getting dove by orisa. Theres some serious positioning and awareness issues that need to be addressed, or your team had already lost the fight some time ago
In most situations I can handle just playing Moira.
I can make up for lack of dos via purple focus.
Or I can be the team’s main healer, so long as I have the room to do so and my tank and dps aren’t just mindlessly forcing a long stalling fight. If you are not quick enough, I get upset, because that means my Moira will run dry, and that will equal to a bad time for everyone.
So then I take the fight to the enemy. I can spamm purple orbs for free recharge, but then if they have a Genji, Sigma, Dva or a good Rein holding his shield down, I can’t recharge.
Moira cannot heal if she has no resources.
Fyi the best Moiras in the world are actually DPS heavy Moiras. No need to heal when everything is dead right?
That’s my utility I bring to the table. Simple, but very powerful when handled correctly.
