For context I main DPS, and I’m currently Silver II, no matter how good I do, even if I have games where I get 30+ eliminations the least amount of death and 10K+ damage over .7 games I CANNOT get out of Silver 2. I understand that I’m not guaranteed to go up at all, but when I do extremely well across 7 games and I can’t even go up ONE DIVISION?? I can’t even reach Silver 1. I have been placed in Silver 2, 4-5 times in a row now. What’s the point of playing, if that keeps happening? I don’t know what to believe.
first let me tell you that just having 10k plus damage is no feat and has no baring on the reality of the game. as for getting 30 more elims (not kills) than your deaths is not an indicator you are doing well. i recently had a gold game where i had 28 elims and 5 deaths, while my team had at most 9. we lost that game.
as you are in silver you need to focus on the following more than kills and you will see you start climbing.
Good strong Positioning. if the enemy has to overextend to fight you that is a good thing for you and your team. in conjunction with this dont leave your good position just for a kill giving pressure on the enemy team can be more worth more than a kill. so hold your positioning and let your enemies over extend. there is a big benefit for not being on top of your team. in silver you dont get as many flankers and most are not competent. watch out and warn your team of them. as dps it is your job to deter flanking on your supps and you should peel to help them when you can. a friendly support alive is worth more than an enemy support dead.
know your win condition, often in bronze and silver people just use their abilities willie nilly. realize what needs to happen for your team to win, and focus on that. if you are in team chat let your team know.
it is ok not to do damage if it means you are zoning an enemy. this is especially true of zoning a phara. i see so many soldiers shoot the enemy tanks with trash damage and not keeping an eye on the phara only to have their team be wiped by a barrage. your role is to deliver damage not to be a dps machine. more times than i can tell you i was saved by being aware of my surroundings at the cost of doing less damage.
lastly, dont rush especially with your ult. often waiting for the opportune moment to use your ult or abilities can mean the difference between 4 k blossom or your dead blossom.
PS
im currenlty in gold dps and support so feel free to add me and message me who you are and i could give you more hands on pointers. and duo que maybe. Azmuel-1621
I ranked 2 accounts to mid-plat from Silver 5 start.
It actually took about 7 cycles to reach my proper SR. So that is like 49 wins…or about 75 games total.
Basically I’ve been keeping track of the win lose ratio. Wanted to see what it takes to rank up. So here are my last 12 sets of 7 wins. To have so many more wins than loses, but I am still the same rank. So, I would say it’s really hard to rank up. You are not alone in this feeling.
7/3/0 - Silver 1
7/4/0 - Silver 1
7/7/0 - Silver 3
7/4/0 - Silver 2
7/4/0 - Silver 2
7/4/0 - Silver 1
7/10/0 - Silver 3 - Had a Leaver in one game I waited til timer was gone, but it made it a loss still.
7/4/0 - Silver 2
7/3/0 - Silver 1
7/5/0 - Silver 1
7/9/0 - Silver 2
7/3/0 - Silver 1
I’ve been stuck in Silver for the whole season.
Just today, the game brought me Gold 5. I don’t know if the end of season made it easier for me (less players to be matched with).
But I feel like, as a support, the main stat to pay attention to is number of deaths. So you might check it out.
I guess the logic behind would be : its easy to do tons of damage and kills just by going kamikaze. But kamikaze doesn’t show you’re dominating your games. Yet, if you don’t die and still manage to put out decent stats, then the game seems to consider you’re dominating and will you rank up.
Its something I already feel from game to game. When I finish a game with like 1 death per min, I can tell the next game matches me with lower ranks.
I actually quit playing OW lol. But ummm, ehh? My opinion is its pretty random right now. Skill divisions are currently extremely wide! Like 10 divisions or so a full 1k SR, I mean. Is that competitive and accurate? I say no others think its fine. So I guess yes, or no, or maybe lol. Depending on who you ask.
Can you not at least try to be impartial?
Looking at your win/loss list it is extremely obvious what is going on.
Pretend you are looking at someone else’s data and then try to figure out the rank changes.
I don’t even have to read the rest of the thread. No you are just bad. Let’s continue on then.
Elims are not the same as final blows or even value.
You are conveniently leaving out now many losses you get for these 7 wins.
If you have a replay I can help you out, otherwise you’re not giving me much to go off of. I’m a masters 2 dps right now for reference.
So if you won 7 out of 11 games and stayed exactly the same rank you think that is what should happen? Or win exatly 50% of your games and drop two full ranks that should happen? near season start I was losing a lot, a ton more, average was 7/8 and Im still in the same ranking(Silver 1-3).
You ranked up.
You struggled.
You got deranked as a result.
I’m a D3 support and 100% the reason at least 2 of my matches were lost (just a mistake at a super critical time)… that and 7-12 didn’t derank me…
I know just that i recognize these things means i can climb farther, I need to clutch those moments to add value instead of die. That and my support damage is starting to fall behind with 2-3k per game.
after that i will get masters, or at least I’ll have removed some variables and know what to work at next.
(MM still sucks balls though xD but its a difference in mindset OP suffers from)
You got this man, just keep the mindset in check and you’ll rank up for sure.
like me I play 7 game ranking 4 time and I still same rank gold 3 I don’t no why I try lose maybe i go gold 4 or 5 but still gold 3
you got this! Gold is just around the corner. NEVER give up!
I’ve just went from plat1>plat1 after winning 7 games so theres that… Games in a bad way right now. Between the terrible ranking system and smurfs and such. It’s brutal, had a guy play Baptiste in a plat 1 game and drop 57 kills and 13k damage.
from the look of this it looks like you are a silver 2 player with a peak in gold 5, i know it doesnt show but i can tell that you nearly got it on the 3 to last assesment.
since i dont know anything else i cant give any advice to climb. but since you do tend to have more wins than loses i would assume preformance based sr is working against you. basically you are not preforming as well at your fellow silver players when you win and preform worse when you lose. try focusing on not wasting you abilities and landing them in opportune moments. look back at a replay and try to see if there was a place where you could have done something had you done something different.
i don’t know, are people consistent? does any game play out the same? are people the same level of smart in any scenario every minute of their life?
Wins/Loss doesn’t always tell the story as if you win 51% of the time but you win on matches predicted for you to win you won’t make much if any gain. You need to make wins when the system doesn’t predict a win or predicts equal footing. If you are still stuck in that range after that many sets you are likely not winning nearly enough as you need to be winning. This is an issue of just skill up then climb up.
