Is the Nvidia reflex setting broken

Been messing about with this setting and honestly not noticing anything different, the description makes it sound like things should feel better, what am I missing?

Basically it should give you lower latency…

You mean like ping, I get 15ms constantly on warzone not sure what it is on overwatch yet.

It should reduce your input lag!

So your inputs should feel more responsive!

It feels exact same whether it’s on or off, maybe my latency is already top notch and don’t need it.

Depends. In some games it may even cause lower fps.

So you seem like know your stuff, took a screenshot in game of my pc stats they look like this.

FPS 60 TEMP 35 VRAM 900-1600 LATENCY 71 IND 20

I’m brand new to PC but in cod my ping is always 14-15, how are my overwatch things, any good?

Looking good I’d try this!

So it’s ranging from 15 to 17, I have vsync on because it looked better could that be an issue?

Ah yes definitely turn vsync off!

Vsync locks the max frame rate to your max refresh rate of your screen to make it smoother/prevent “screen tearing” but the cost is that it increases input lag!

If you still want some of that smoothness you can enable Gsync in your GPU driver settings which matches your monitor refresh rate to whatever frame rate you have at that moment - provided your monitor supports this!

How are you finding your new computer fan-noise wise?

Ok I turned it off but SIM is still the same even though it feels way better but prefer it looking better with vsync on tbh.

My other settings on that menu are.

Dynamic render scale off OFF
Render scale AUTOMATIC
Triple buffering OFF
Reduce buffering OFF

I have no clue what those do, should anything be changed?

No fan noise at all but the lights are annoying.

Not everyone is sensitive enough to detect small changes in input latency. It could just be that.

make that 100% or something automatic blurs stuff many times.

also if your cpu is older by a good amount that gpu then use nvidia reflex + boost enabled.

Vsync adds a lot of input lag, I strongly recommend turning it off unless the screen tearing is massive.

Ok I hear ya, just going to take a punt here and show the rest of my settings see if anyone has recommendations.

My pc detects this game to run on ULTRA, someone said it’s better with low graphics so just changed things and hope for the best, if anyone thinks should change anything for the better it would be great if could let me know.

Just checked my CPU it’s an AMD Ryzen 5 5500.

Reflex mostly helps in situations if GPU is very loaded. If your GPU can run overwatch without 90% of usage, it wont be that noticeable. But it does not hurt either, so its always safe to have it enabled.

One important thing to check is to have the in game fps counter visible, and make sure you have one dot next to it all times.

3 dots means you are going to get input lag.

My GPU is a Nvidia 3050 6gb ram, seems like it’s barely using any of the power available.

Yeah in low settings ow is not very taxing on GPUs unless you are going to hit hundreds of FPS.

About v-sync, depeding on your monitor it might support g-sync or freesync which gives the benefits of vsync (no screen tearing) without adding input lag.

You know I doubt my monitor has much fancy gaming settings things since it is an LG TV/Monitor with inbuilt speakers, it’s 1080p and 60 frames and great at those specs but nothing like 4k 120hz.

First things first:

What is your plan with OW? Play competively or for fun?

If is for fun, you could increase the graphics settings to improve the visuals, due your monitor being 60hz, I wouldn’t try to force much above 90-120fps. Due your latency itself being in that realm of being the most impact on your games, the 90-120fps range could improve loading times but wouldn’t do much on the input lag side in matches due your network one is on “general playerbase” side.

Vysnc, triple buffering and reduced buffering on your case wouldn’t make much. So, whatever enables you to have consistent fps and with pleasing visuals would.

Which goes to, look to your max fps and lock it about 5-10% below it or about 20 fps below the max value. That would provide stability.

About nvidia reflex, is just a gimmick to reduce a bit the api overhead on nvidia gpus who often is really high. The issue with that is often is really “instable” due how it behaves. On higher fps you often get less noticiable deviation, that on cases of stable fps.

If you go competitive, you could disable everything, put most settings on low and enable reduce buffering(if your cpu isn’t the bottleneck) or enable triple buffering (if your cpu is the bottleneck) . I wouldn’t recommend focusing on playing competitively due your latency being 70, if you’re on higher ranks, but with that latency diamond/masters would be achievable, although with some effort the later.
