Is the game in a good state casually?

Thinking of getting back in, most of my playtime was 2016-2019ish but I hate competitive and playing overly competitively, I used to play a lot during OW1, hop on and just chill, usually play torbjorn, not worry too much about winning or losing, is it still possible to play like this without being screamed at?

Honestly? No. This current season is very frustrating, people are frustrated too. Also, map voting in QP slows the game down a lot and make it so you only play the same maps over and over.

Interesting, they added map voting? I’ve never been a fan of that, I remember when they added it to TF2 we’d just get 2fort over and over again, never a good feature imo.

it was not well implemented. The game halts before it even loads and you have to vote, wait for everyone to vote (or the timer) and then the animation of the roullete (it’s not a democracy. Votes only increase the chance of a map being selected).

This kills a lot of momentum in QP, at least for me.

hero shooters are meant to be played casually, least competitive genre.

Besides the raidboss tanks, Sigma it’s good

Just mute text and comms and then play QP. You wont even notice!

No. People play Quickplay like it’s Competitive. The DPS meta is stale, boring heroes with infinite range and damage. The tank meta is infinite sustain. Supports are… supports.

If you’re looking to play a character you enjoy, don’t bother opening the game. You will be obliterated into thousands of tiny particles by people “having fun.” You also get nothing for your suffering, so there’s that too.

The game is fun right now, granted the gameplay loop hasn’t changed in damn near 10 years.

QP games are a mixed bag. I do my wholesome 3 stack qp nights, and we all have a good time.

Don’t let a few bad apples ruin the run for ya

No, you’ll be rolled by groupstacks.

There’s way more cheating and smurfing now, that’s the nature of going F2P. I wish they’d do more to address it.

It’s in the best state I’ve seen, but I started playing S1 of OW2. I don’t see as much toxicity. It was really bad early on.

Not really.

The game is not even in a good state competitively.

As long as Tanks in particular follow this philosophy of non-interaction, the game suffers competitively and casually.

That doesn’t sound good at all! What do you mean by non-interaction? Do tanks tend to stay back and not engage enemies in the current meta?

Tanks have all their stats buffed so much that tank trades don’t exist anymore and dps just lose by interacting with the tank because of said stats.

Think you’re the only person that can determine that….and there’s only one way to do that

No.

It means tanks are so obscenely strong that you are forced to only ever interact with them if stats allow you to, e.g. team focus. This sabotages the concept of individual player agency that they touted with the shift to 5v5.

You are going to get eviscerated.

The game is in a great state if you play casually and go up against players who also play casually, which is highly unlikely as MM will eventually put you with players like me who play as if it’s the finals of a tourney lmao
Competitively this game has fallen of a cliff
Only viable options are Burst Healing/Damage
And giga tank sustain

Due to terrible matchmaking. They are intentionally destroying match quality in order to keep Q times low.

Agreed. The game is kinda more balanced for higher ranked competitive than it is for the casual qp audience.

This is a little silly. The map vote is extremely fast, and any tools the Devs give us to make our experience better (choosing a map of 3 instead of being forced into a random one) is always a positive.

This is just misinformation. I get a very similar amount of variety as I did before map voting was a thing, payload and hybrid are the clear favourite so we do see them slightly more than other game modes, but that’s a huge positive. It’s never the same 3 maps the vote system gives you. There’s also the chance that lets the map with only 1 vote gets a chance to get picked by the rng machine.

I seriously don’t understand any kind of dislike towards map voting. It literally just makes the entire overwatch experience better.
