To a strong degree I always look at what I do in my games and analyze what I could have done better. What counter swap could I have done? What angles could I have approached? Did I pick the right hero?
I’m constantly being told “if you wanna rank up you have to carry” but the problem I’m not a sweaty pro player so I lack the ability to carry anyone. Im a tank main so i can only create so much space, do enough dmg, get certain picks but I cant play every roll and I cant control the tides of the match if I keep seeing teammates do some of the worst play imaginable. I dont have a 6th sense within this game.
Is this really what it takes to rank up? Do I need to excessively sweat so hard I MUST carry the team otherwise I’m hard stuck?
Yes, because if you think you’re better, you will be the one to carry. And after all, Ranked mode is meant to be sweaty.
No, because carrying a whole team all by yourself, is impossible. Losing is not always the fault of ONE player.
Try to communicate with your mates to build teamplay together. Some of your mates might just need you’ll get more defensive/aggressive. If you can analyze the game and you’d think you know what’s going wrong in your team, you can share it with your mates and teach them or learn to adapt.
I, personnally, have a hard time with “counter swapping” in OW, unless you’re a top player, counter swapping isn’t such a big thing. It could be, but there’s probably a way to play better without swapping as you know, a top500 players could handle Zarya with Winston/Dva i.e…
Personally I dont always think I’m better. I know when I face against some good players and just admit its a skill diff and just move on to the next game. Just been extremely difficult to maintain gold rank or even attempt to climb out if possible.
Im trying man I really am but the games I get is so insanely one sided where I’m just left with “Idk what to do anymore” I cant compensate for my teammates
It is about where players are at their most inconsistent. 1 play will pop off and see godly, then the next game they can barely tie their own shoe laces.
It is why people get so frustrated in there. Only way out is to play more consistantly.
At this point it doesn’t matter so much, you can team wipe, you can top the scoreboard in every stat, but if one guy is on like 1k DMG and 2-15 for example, the other team is basically just feeding off him. Main thing is, you see a game that one guy is clearly going to cost you, try your best and don’t get tilted. You can only carry so many potatoes.
This way of thinking probably comes from the idea that you need to take more risks and play like you are the main character. Otherwise you likely won’t have enough impact to tilt a losing game in your favor. Most games are decided by who can get the first pick in team fights more consistently.
So you have to be fast and try to do it before someone on your team feeds. That usually involves taking a risk that you might also be the one who ends up feeding. But you’re still going to need the mechanics and the game sense to pull it off. There is no sugar coating it and anyone who says otherwise is lying.
Then when you try to carry, they say you need to just play your role.
It really depends on the match. If your team is doing their job, you need to do yours. If your team sucks, you need to carry.
…of course, if you apply these tactics and they’re netting you a positive win rate, Calibration matches will kick in and slap you with heavy losses with Volatile so that MMR keeps you in your place.
Yes, you need to be personally involved with every single elimination, get your own healing from hp packs and cap the objective, or, I’m sorry to break it to you, you lose.
If it’s one-sided, work on doing things well. Be sure to group, don’t feed, don’t ult needlessly, position yourself well, don’t die needlessly, and communicate with your team. What you do will carry over into future matches.
Nope, it never is all on you and it never will be. Its a team game, you do your job to the best of your ability, dont be toxic, and hope your teammates do their job just as good.
You will win and lose games because of teammates and your own gameplay. Play a ton of games consistently and you will climb.
I know it’s frustrating, but straight up, until you personally are a major deciding factor in the outcome of matches then your rank is where it’s supposed to be.
thanks to variance there will be spikes up rank and down rank. you’ll start to see what i mean the next time the matchmaker’s variance drops you below where you’re supposed to be. you’ll crush lobbies.
you don’t need to hard carry to climb, but you kind of do need to be one of the top two or three players in your lobby way more than half the time to climb quickly. and straight up, if you’re not climbing quickly it’s because you’re not consistently one of the best players in your lobbies.
if you really think about it, you have to be a whole lot better than the lobby to have the ‘agency’ people want to have. you can get there, but as soon as you do you’re gonna rank up to where you don’t any more. might as well get used to figuring out how to win tough matches than pine for easy ones.
