Is Sym's Vishkar skin from before she lost her arm?

Cause she has the non-prosthetic left arm in this skin, but if you say Hello you can still hear the arm’s mechanical noise when she raises it.

I believe her arm is simply a gauntlet and not a prosthetic. She has this skin in her “A Better World” comic and she also has her fingers there, yet she’s still able to conjure light-baser constructs like a bridge and the turrets.

she’s got a techno mage glove on, those are bound to make clickity clack noises.

Quoting Overwatch wiki:
“Alongside Genji, McCree, Torbjorn and Junkrat, Symmetra is an amputee, with her left arm being mechanical. She also have a skin featuring both arms intact, Architect and Vishkar, which shows a younger Symmetra, similar to McCree’s skin Blackwatch.”

I’m looking for the reference now.

It’s likely just the Devs not giving the skins sound effects for a human arm

In her comics

She raid the building with her symmetra default skin with that glove/prosthetic on, after the explosions and all that, you can see her wearing the vishkar uniform with both arms again.

Its either the wiki is wrong or there is a plot hole/retcon somewhere.

well, skins never change sounds or sfx that much. At best they add a voiceline or two

Likely a Lore Retcon

I bet the next time we see Symmetry in her Vishkar outfit, her biotic arm suddenly won’t have fingers poking out of it and they’re just gonna pretend she was always a amputee.

Which I really hope won’t be the case

Oh well that could always be a super realistic prosthetic, but IDK.

Blizzard and lore consistency are things that dont mix

Doomfist is a full cyborg, and his arms don’t look prosthetic until you notice the knuckles.

My bet is that she have a life-like prosthetic for social interactions, and the white arm is necessary to do her spy stuff. Torbjorn also have a prosthetic claw for fighting, but in the Brigitte origin video you see him with a more life-like arm while playing with her as a kid.

I really hope michael chu or any of the devs would confirm this to us!

Is it really a prosthetic arm?or just a very high tech vishkar glove!.

can it be made gold? :sob:

My theory is that it’s probably a full prosthetic designed to look like an arm in a fancy glove for PR reasons.

You’d probably reconsider hiring a company for land development if you knew their architects were forcefully amputated to meet the conditions needed to perform the job.
I know I would.

She is an amputee, but the comic fails in clarify that.
Kinda ironic since Symmetra would hate inconsistent.

^But the fingers pointing out of the glove contradicts this statement

This is also true for her halloween spray (even if she is obviously younger there, it further proves the arm is just a gauntlet instead of full cybernetics)

Blizzcon 2016, Overwatch Q&A panel.

There is a transcript here. The amputee question is on page 3.

Question: I had a lore question that all my friends and I argue about whether certain characters are actually amputee,s or whether they just have sort of a mechanical thing on their arm. Mainly, we were talking about Lucio, Symmetra, Pharah and Hanzo.
Michael : Yes, I can do this. Lucio no, Symmetra yes, Pharah no, and Hanzo no (he has delicate ankles). I am going to regret that answer. Right as I get off here, I am gonna think, you know what? Story idea.

I believe a lot of people are confused because it is difficult to figure out the timeline in this game.

The way I see it, Chu already stated that she is an amputee which means she is one now.

When she was younger and in Vishkar, Symmetra had her real arm. Something happens to her between the comic and her appearance in-game. If you imagine that all the “heroes” we are playing with will one day join Overwatch or support them (maybe in the face of a greater lore-related threat), then you can picture our in-game Symmetra being the final version.

  • Side note: In the comics, she is visiting Rio De Janeiro. The events that take place seemingly come before Lucio’s story. He eventually rebels against Vishkar and steals their technology sometime after they’ve already established themselves in Rio. That means in-game, the Lucio we are playing with may exist in the same time as our in-game Symmetra.

Her lore didn’t catch up however, so what happens to make her lose that arm, I have no idea (maybe a battle against Sanjay?)

The one featured in the comic could very well just be a gauntlet. After losing her arm, I could see Symmetra easily building herself a new one with her abilities (which is why it is designed in a similar way to her sentries)

As for the mechanical noises – I think that is just an oversight!

Doomfist has a prosthetic arm and it looks real.

Same could be said for Symmetra. My Speculation:

Fingerless glove arm, as stated before, for public appearances. She can still bend but has the, “model employee,” appearance for public relations.

Default Gauntlet is for espionage reasons as she needs a high output source to carry out her missions. Sort of the weaponized Hardlight that I’m sure Vishkar is keeping under wraps to avoid controversy.

It’s consistency with sound effects for gameplay reasons. Same as Young Genji having a robotic effect on his voice, or Reyes skin voicelines still having all the gravel of Reaper (in Retribution we have the “real” Reyes voice).
