I got spawn camped the entire game by this roadhog today. I then got reported by my team for “throwing” the match even though i couldnt do anything. and the hog ONLY targeted me. Not my mei, my rein, nobody. Is spawn camping allowed in ranked or not because tbh its one of the most toxic things in the game.

Yes, you’re allowed to camp at someones spawn, also most spawns have different exits, plus you could have changed to a variety of different heroes if it was a major issue (which it clearly was as you said you were unable to leave spawn)

i switched many times to counter that roadhog but since hook has 8 second cooldown and respawn is 8 seconds i couldnt do anything. and i did use communications but my teamates werent having it. all they said was. kill the hog even though he has both of his ability cooldowns in the time of a respawn.

What role were you on?
Every role has a couple characters that’ll easily stop a Hog from locking you in spawn.

i was playing dps and kept switching for a way to counter hog but nothing worked
Reaper, McCree, anyone with range, anyone with mobility.
Sombra is absolutely 100% spawn trap proof.

Your goal shouldn’t be to counter him in this situation, it should be to get out of spawn without being hooked. As soon as you’re past him, you’re in a 6v5 because there’s an enemy tank contributing absolutely nothing until he walks all the way back.

It’s certainly not intended, but it isn’t discouraged. What map did you get spawn camped on? It should be literally impossible since you can go out any other exit to escape him.

I mean, whatever the case, losing 1v1s or whatever is never bannable. Neither is spawncamping. You should be in the clear.

That’s what I was thinking. There are usually like 3 doors you can leave spawn from, surely a single Hog can’t guard all of them at the same time?

Well that’s definitely not true. The defender spawns for most maps have no way to circumvent a Roadhog. You can sometimes delay the encounter via some roundabout path, but to actually get back to the main fight, you still have to get past him.
Realistically your options on those maps are:
a. Pick something that can reliably get past him and survive.
b. Outplay and kill him (if you’re able).
c. Ask for help dealing with him, and actually receive that help from someone.
d. Stay at spawn and accept the match as 5v5, which favors your team if you’re on the Damage role (doesn’t work as Support).

It is allowed, and it’s even a valid strategy if you can hold more players in spawn with fewer (1 holding 2 prisoner, or 2 holding 3 prisoner) or if you can hold a higher value role (dps holding a support usually, but if you can hold a tank that’s real value there).
It’s a little questionable when it’s a tank holding a single dps… but not necessarily throwing if his team is winning the 5v5.
When it really starts to look like throwing is when they continue to spawn camp while the team is losing the 5v5, and they just keep playing spawn camp as they lose the objective and the match.
This is a fairly common way for smurfs to derank because it gives them something to do and may not even look like throwing to their team (they aren’t visible but they keep showing up in the good position on the kill feed so they ‘contributing’ right?).
For some smurfs this is just what they do… their team can win or not win, they don’t care because they don’t want to rank up, just to torment lower ranked players.
(Note: If you’re in this situation and your team is winning, it may sometimes be strategic to just keep dueling them. You may never win, but if they aren’t actively deranking you don’t want them getting bored and going back to change the balance while your team is winning).
In any case, you either had a smurf hog camping you or you’re really above your proper rank because it shouldn’t be that hard to escape. If you’re trapped like that again just take Sombra, cloak in spawn and sneak back to your team. Fast heroes (soldier, tracer, genji) and flying heroes (echo, pharah) also have better than average odds of getting out, but since it’s not secret you will probably be followed to point and flanked immediately.
Also it sounds like your teammates were a bunch of toxic you-know-what’s who need reporting.

Wait a second, a thought occurs… was the rest of your team just running past the Hog without attacking him? How could he spawn camp you the whole game without getting killed by the rest of your team?
