Is Sigma schizophrenic?

All evidence like his reveal trailer and how he talks to himself makes it seem like he’s schizophrenic, but have they ever confirmed it?
They made it seem like his schizophrenia would play a bigger role in his character, but toned it down once they realized that it’s a bad idea to shoot at a mentally ill, old man, put him as a villain, and base his character around a mental illness.

I think they should’ve leaned into it. It would’ve made a much more interesting character. Right now, he’s just a sweet old man who sometimes forgets his keys And doesn’t realize he’s one of the bad guys.

some say there is a fine line between genius and madness. and then there are those who blur the line.

No he isn’t, he just has one of those really hard to shake earworms.

Like when I listen to nightcore

I remember, a while back, someone had written up a convincing “report/research paper” about how Sigma’s psychosis could be related to a real life variation of schizophrenia where people hear music/melodies.

(Or maybe I went down a really weird rabbit-hole to satiate my curiosity and thought that someone else had written a report about it. It’s all kind of a blur)

He’s transcended beyond anything we could ever comprehend, he’s in his own reality.

Also, the writers confirmed he doesn’t have any mental disorders.

Edit. I can’t find the archives anymore though I just tried so, maybe someone else can idk

Due to this, I always assumed his ‘disorder’, or whatever it is, is the experiments with gravity he was working on. He somehow got it to the point where it was strong enough that it interfered with his mind while he was testing things.

From there, I don’t know if it’s a disorder that randomly affects him, or if he can sort of turn it off and on at will. I dont remember for sure, but I want to say Talon learned how to ‘harness him’, so it’s likely something they can activate when they need to, not unlike Bucky Barnes and the whole “winter soldier” plotline in Marvel.

Well, medically atleast it’s a fictional disorder caused by exposure to black holes.

Either way, yeah I think they should’ve leaned into Sigma’s unstableness more, his origin story paints him to be more interesting than how he really is. He literally talks about his violent tendencies and it’s nowhere to be seen in-game.

I mean, he does throw massive rocks at people AND slam people down with artificial gravity that prob will kill any normal people on landing so :person_shrugging:

Sigma: How can one focus when viewing the infinite universe?

He quite clearly does… The writers do not get to say that Sigma is a strong independent black woman just because they “wrote” his character. It kind of goes against everything we have seen.

Maybe some kind of madness relating to trying to control space and time. Maybe he’s heard the singing voice of something deep and ancient in the universe. Maybe something even older. He could quite actually be hearing…something very real :eyes:

Some kind of Cthulhu God.

(It’s a pachimari)

Mercy is a pacifist and she will still violently shoot people in the head.
I mean in terms of voice lines, like speaking and suddenly having an outburst like in the origin story, not gameplay related things.

Exactly. I think they toned him down because they thought it would be a bad look to shoot at a mentally unstable person

Hes just a very strange genius. And comon lets not beat around the bush in every movie or even certain people in real life that are genius always has been strange people its not new behavior that we never seen…

No he was seemingly neurotypical before the whole incident and talon brainwashing

I don’t think he’s schizophrenic, just brainwashed and lost

I don’t think you’re usually born schizophrenic, you develop it over time.
Neurotypical people can get it

It’s genetic, mothers who have schizophrenia or schizoaffective hand it down to their children. women usually have symptoms at a younger age, and males usually have symptoms when they are around their 20’s, I had my first symptoms when i was 24.

I’m not super knowledgeable but I don’t really think any random person can just develop it. Some of it would have to do with inheriting it from your parents/family and other times it would just be your own genetic predisposition to getting it

How those develop? Idk probably has to do with an extremely unlucky genetic makeup and also experiencing severe trauma. Sigma isn’t a real person so no idea what they got going on with him lol

He’s got schizophrenia 2, which comes with gravity powers, microtransactions and no PvE.
