Is Role Queue still necessary?

Concensus is shown via mismatch minimization. OPEN will always find equilibrium faster then LOCKDOWN. It’s not an evidence thing, it’s a model structure thing. Constraints block the natural concenssus.

A good percentage? More arguments hinging around subjectivity and numbers? No thanks. OPEN doesn’t stoop to that level!

Well no, it doesn’t. Because “everyone” is mostly dps (as evidenced by queue demand and bribed tank/support roles). Face it, offering bribes to fix a trash model is just an admission of guilt and subopimality.

Let’s not conclude it’s quality-related. 222 has a lower skillcap requirement so maybe that’s why.

And you still haven’t shown it’s more popular.

Except that you are missing the biggest part of your cost function, people want fun games.

So they are choosing the mode which gives it to them.

Numbers… like player numbers?

And even then they are willing to take the hit on queue times for better games.

Except by a massive player number difference.

Again, the BEST explanation of data we see is “People like roleQ more than openQ”

Except they’re being bribed. The cost function changes when lack of fun is compensated for via bribes. 222 is a failed bribed mode.

High plat is getting nearer to the top 13 percent of the player base, however below that - where most of the player base resides this was not case. It’s great that you have well balanced but the rest of us would also like to play the game and not feel like it’s a clownfest.

DPS are not, and they EVEN get it worse because of queue times, and yet…

EVEN THEN they play roleQ more.

EVEN THEN… like if that isn’t a huge indicator that the issues of openQ are not like… crazy big, I don’t know what is.

Hey, you could… NOT get to swap, AND have to wait longer, to take this mode.

and they do so, ANYWAY because openQ is so much worse.

Yeah.
The interesting factor, in my opinion, is that roleQing as dps ensures that you have healers and tanks, which are nice to have - but maybe they wouldn’t feel as necessary if the enemy team didn’t have them either. They go to rolequeue out of fear, in a sense - the fear that in open queue, they’ll have to face a team that has healing and tanking, while theirs doesn’t. This is why I think it would be interesting to see how much traffic a 6-dps gamemode would get.

Where are the popularity numbers btw?

Queues show a demand mismatch, not a popularity indicator.
A demand mismatch in a lowerskillcap game mode padded by bribes.

DPS top 500.

AGAIN…

Like there is far far far fewer people playing it. EVEN for DPS. Which is the group MOST LIKELY to prefer openQ.

Because queue times etc - but EVEN THEN they take roleQ in preference.

I’d be up for a mode like that, if only to pull a bunch of DPS off roleQ.

openQ does it a little, but people don’t enjoy it as much. maybe a DPS only mode would do well.

Your consensus argument asks for the same evidence that you are demanding from others, which is why i suggest we drop it.

Constraints can and have helped overwatch in the case of removing multiples of the same hero, so that argument is evidently false.
A well designed game does not necessarily bow down to consensus in the way you are describing - in fact, doing that can trash a game.

A good percentage. A tank or healer player with 4+ DPS players on their team could easily get into an unwinnable game regardless of their hero selection. Those specific unwinnable games are gone.

Well yes, it does. You just have to wait for the ROLE you chose now or go OQ. You do seem a little caught up on the bribe thing - i personally see it as an incentive to solve your own problems.

Please answer: How is OQ more robust?

Please address: RQ has allowed the devs to rebalance various issues (brig rework, shields nerf, healing balance changes etc) that could not have been fixed in OQ.

The reason no one is q’ing up for these roles is not because people don’t want to play but rather they don’t want to play them in their current butchered state. For over a year just about the entire dps cast has been getting buffs to both utility and damage whilst the other roles have been gutted. This on top of dps having more characters than both the other roles combined. No one wants to play gimped versions of their characters that have lost their identity and underperform.

2/2/2 will always exist because there were people like me who would flex and let you guys play what you want. The benefits of the 2/2/2 role queue is that people have no excuses when they suck.

I have lost matches because the DPS lock in think they are amazing as DPS but in reality I can play better than them and because they can’t flex to another role, they QQ about Support or tank.

There was a Tank noob before the days of Role Queue who sucked at D.Va, they criticise me and got the entire team to blame me the solo support/only player willing/had experience with support so I switched and played D.Va and got flamed at for throwing.

But because I was a flex and D.Va was my other main, I was able to win the fight single handely and gets them 2 out of 5 rounds and the team realised I wasn’t throwing but rather I was going all out and proving a point that they suck.

4 out of the 5 team mates had respect and one of them did their best to support but evidently lacked experience. The troll kept flaming but the team had lost respect in them because I practically proved to them that I was a better player to not judge my rank and the fact I chose to flex support for them to mean I was bad.

In the end we ended the match as a draw but what that match proved is how flawed Overwatch is as a Role Queue or Free Queue system. The match is based on Team Win and Team lost and there is a lack of a Hero Ranking. Role Queue is the closest thing to getting a accurate ranking but even then that still isn’t entirely accurate.

none of the above counters any of my points, nor does any of the above support the claim that 222 is necessary

again, as I have stated three times now, thousands upon thousands upon thousands of players are playing non-222 mode matches as I type this and as you read this with no issues/problems

I know of no valid data to support this claim

actually, people can go back and forth as they wish, when this wish.

there is no “graduation” from modes in the game…they are available to all players at all times regardless of the amount of time one has been a player

Blizzard says? Please provide a link.

as I stated in my prior post, queue times is ONE of many problems that 222 added to the game.

Being that it is the best known problem, I figured it’d be the best one to name in my reply

first of all, that is a bandaid for a system (222) which is an implicit statement from Blizzard that they know the system is problematic – same as the fact that they had a bribe system in place when 222 was added

second, no, it doesnt counter the issue, because wait times remain long even with the ticket, and many folks are reporting that the wait times with the ticket vastly exceed the time quoted when the ticket is applied

finally, the tickets create problems for other players, those who play in games where a dps is playing a tank character that they neither like nor know how to play properly in order to earn said tickets

the problem is that a dps player wants to play a dps character with little or no wait time, but can’t. Playing a non dps character does NOT solve that problem

this is irrelevant to this discussion, which is about problems for the game, not about problems for me

you can address my problems with a winning lottery ticket, but we can save that discussion for another thread. this one is about the problems 222 brings to the game for EVERYONE

similar to what I stated earlier in this thread, if a player wants to play a 222 game, sending them to a non 222 game does not solve that problem

further, the role-less queue games have a number of differences between the comp and qp game modes from before 222 infested the game, and also many differences aside from queuing with the current 222 modes.

and of course, role-less queue qp mode doesnt even exist on the main game selection menu at all

role-less queue modes have never forced anyone ever to play a role they dont want to play.

You’ll need to provide data on said fraction to support this point

Further, a for profit enterprise like Blizzard will seek out and attempt to maintain any profitable revenue stream they can find. Each stream, no matter its size, adds to the profitability of said enterprise. Few if any companies of that size rely on a single or a few revenue stream(s).

the point isnt silly at all

as each game is sold, there is now once less potential buyer of the game

this is what saturation means…just as each drop of water is added to a sponge, the less additional water it can hold

no need for me to respond to an ad hominem

I already covered this in previous statements in this thread.

the statements are still available to be read

more ad hominem

I don’t believe there has ever been evidence provided on these forums to support this claim

Yes, it’s necessary. The death of open que has proven it. The population has chosen role que as the preferred gametype.

this was data for a single day. One day only.

that day was a day when Open Queue had just been introduced, before most players were even aware it existed

on that day, the role-less queue mode was in the arcade menu, not the main game selection menu, meaning it was buried a level down from the competing 222 modes. as such, this data provides an apples to oranges comparison

most importantly of all, this is usage data rather than preference/ popularity data.

usage <> preference

If Blizzard decides that the game needs to be rid of 222, they will remove it

and

there is a good amount of evidence indicating that they would like this to happen

there are thousands upon thousands of players playing role-less queue mode games all over the world without problems/issues. this indicates 222 isn’t a necessity - ie necessary - to play the game

I’ve played role-less queue games today

doesn’t appear to me as such that it is dead

I know of no valid data to support this claim

???

Open is alive and well in multiple regions.

The fact that there’s still 6 dps games in QP classic and even open queue comp says it’s still necessary

I prefer Open Queue
But there are games where everyone is too stubborn to swap to what the team needs and all assume it’s someone else’s responsibility

Very very rare in my experience.

Post 10 successive replay codes?

Well 6 dps itself is rare but it’s not that rare for a team to not get a healer
