I see this countless time that Owl ruin the game because it takes time away from the lore, balance changes, and etc.
Did it really ruined it or is everyone being judgemental?
Tell me, do you think that Owl ruined the game or it isn’t and everyone is being judgemental
Well, I think people are exaggerating when blaming OWL for everything.
But.
With that said, the core game have barley seen any progression since the launch of OWL and now they’re all over media talking about making OWL a “global super league”. I can see why people are somewhat annoyed.
Oh for sure, it’s not like anyone is saying the entire OW team is working on OWL. But it does seem to be the main focus of the higher-ups and that attitude trickles down. “They talk more about OWL stuff than they do about the actual game”.
Also Blizzard is hardly winning any favors from the players skeptical to OWL when they keep putting more and more exclusive content behind OWL pay-walls. I do think that leaves some people with a bad taste.
I love the OWL and I think the game is in a good place right now. Players will always search for something to blame. Now that there is an LFG and role queue option, players are searching for other things to blame for not ranking up.
the only thing that really triggers me about OWL is there is no restrictions on players being from the place they are representing. It’s one of the main reasons I supported philly from start to finish and not spitfire. Atleast philly had british coach and boombox who was also british.
You are correct, people aren’t looking at the issue, but I can see why people are going after Owl. Don’t get me wrong, people are looking at the devs but 7 times out of 10, people are blaming Owl.
For example, Sombra, she got nerf out of a reaction thanks to the contenders using her in a coordinated fashion, but not so much in the latter ranks. So she’s back to s*^t tier but worse.
I think it’s just some sect of the playerbase being judgmental. And they happen to have poor judgment, too.
I get the argument, that OWL could be taking resources away from directly bettering the game via development and content. However, Blizzard hasn’t at all been slowing down on that front since OWL started. They’ve been releasing heroes and events and balance patches at about the same pace. The only thing that’s been seemingly slowing down is lore stuff, but, hell, that’s already been slow.
I think it’s dumb for all these people who claim to love OW to want to see the downfall of OWL. You’re allowed to be disinterested in it or not like it, but actively trashing it and acting like it’s a massive negative seems odd to me. If anything, OWL’s offered quite a few positives (more / renewed mainstream exposure for Overwatch, making the playerbase pay more attention to competitive comps and strats and all, team skins, etc.).
To tell you the truth, sports like football, baseball, basketball, mostly soccer will have players from different countries. It’s better to get a player that is good from a different country than a player that is mediocre in their county. That how it is.
You are right, I know people will dislike Owl, but you shouldn’t wish for something to fail. As of now, it looks like OWL is a success and I’m happy for it.
It didn’t, the team that runs OWL and the teams that do lore/balance are all different. It’s just an easy scapegoat for people who don’t know what they’re talking about (Forum goers).
You do understand that philadelphia is in the United States and not in the UK, right? Do you also understand that not one player from Fusion was actually from philadelphia?
So what exactly are you saying?
Because to the trained eye it looks more like “At least they’re not koreans”.
Personally, as a (much) older gamer at 42 years old, i think that OWL has “inspired” instead of “ruined” Oeverwatch for me.
Looking at the love which the crowd has for the League, the players and the game; it makes this old fogey smile at how much video games have been accepted into the mainstream and that e-sports is on its nascent rise.
Over all this would have positive repercussions, not just on Overwatch as a game but to video games as a whole.
Plus, on top of that, because i play basketball and love watching the NBA, i can fully appreciate the great amount of skill, focus and dexterity the OWL players possess to play at that level. And i am learning what i can from watching their play. Although i would never reach even 1/10th of their level, just like i would never reach 1/10th of any NBA player’s level; learning and trying is part of the fun in and of itself.
So to answer your question, Hokutoshin, for this “old fogey”, i would say that people who claims that the League is not good is probably as smart as those who say that the NBA ruins basketball as a sport because the average person can never dunk like Jordan and shoot 3s like Curry.
Whoa pump the brakes separate teams? I thought you had the balance team that is a bunch of out of touch devs and then the lore team was sold for the pointless mercy skins to be made every month.
Now, this is a reply, you are right that it making a positive light that games can also be different from a sport that you see. Good for you seeing the light at the tunnel.
