PvE will probably be paid but OW2 will be free for everyone to play if I understood it correctly. The skin thing might be a combination between real money to get them now or play some time to unlock em the free way that’s my guess at least
Basically… OW2 Early Access, is the 2.0 Patch for OW1 which updates the game to OW2 PvP + open the doors for everyone (F2P). In summary… OW1 is getting replaced with the OW2 PvP Free to Play client.
Note: PvE will probably be an expansion you need to buy to have access to the PvE content in the future. Unknown release date for that.

This graphic was created by a community member and is really outdated, but yeah PvE will cost money and the redesigns are probably shipped with the F2P version of OW2.
OW2 PvP early access is F2P, and the pvp is likely going to stay free once PvE and the game officially launches. The PvE portion will still be something you need to pay for.

All this game has IS cosmetics. There is nothing they can put on the Battle Pass (other than priority passes, LMFAO) other than cosmetics.

overwatch 2 is just an update.
That’s it, it’s not a sequel, it’s a 2.0 version.
When overwatch “2” releases ow1 will disappear and it will become free2play.
how come we’re three years into marketing and people STILL don’t get this? It was abundatly clear from day1 this 2 thing was just a marketing stunt because sequels get more press coverage.

OW2 is entirely about the PvE. This is what you pay to unlock (as they have stated PVE is the focus of OW2 not the pvp)
OW “2” is just OW1 getting a graphical overhaul so 1 and 2 dont look different. All heroes will be playable because again its not “ow2” as thats the PVE.
If OW2 is going F2P then most likely skins are going to start costing money. There may be some free ones but most are going to cost money. That’s the only way I can see them making money unless they make microtransactions affect gameplay in which case this is going to flop hard so let’s hope they learned from Diablo.
I am going to miss being able to get everything for free tho, even if you had to grind a lot of get it all.
