Very much disagree as they’re very different when it comes to movement, physics and mechanics. I’d also say Unreal lent itself better to larger teams and Quake excelled at 1v1 or 2v2 (maybe FFA as well).
A lot of preamble about shooters and GaaS struggling in general and I just gave up watching at the point he suggests OW2 needs something “massive” to refocus community attention/mindset, and that new characters and the like aren’t going to do that… All of this is in the wider context of marketing and mind share. That’s great idyllically and all but 1) that has nothing to do with monetisation and 2) what could Blizzard possibly do that would be so large that isn’t another sequel and 3) who would greenlight a very expensive development after Kaplan and co, if we’re being crude, bungled both Overwatch 1’s last few years and the PvE him and his team had been working on?
The game is fun, not sure what you are talking about.
Did you not have fun last weekend when Juno was out ?
Looking at twitch, hype for the game and community perception, yes it’s absolutely back to being in one of it’s worst states ever, despite getting new hero releases. there is nothing to thrive for. no excitement, no lore, almost no esports and no new ideas. Meta and gameplay loop are stale, the servers are utter garbage, the quality of life and anti-cheat measures are missing. matches are very one-sided. occasionally, it’s fun to play casually with friends but other than that, it’s in an artificial maintenance mode with shop updates and scheduled content. it’s making money though, so it seems to cover it’s cost, at least. It’s joining the likes of D4 and HOTS.
If you ask any community of ANY big PvP game they will tell you “yes, because X”. You get used to it that people try to doom and gloom it. Just remember that OW2 was doomed since day one it was “In season 1 OW2 will be dead”, then “S2 it will be dead!”, then “S3 because of no new hero!”, then “S4 because Weaver was so bad!”, then “S5 because of balance!”, then “S6 because of no PvE!”.
It just continues. If you go after trends on steam, it looks pretty good and looks like OW is growing again. Just keep in mind that a multitude of players dont play on steam.
Imagine thinking a youtuber/streamer knows better than people that work for a company that makes millions of dollars, lol.
I mean, I know Blizz would be biased, but apparently the players numbers have been steadily moving upwards over the past 2 months or so.
The fact that they’re releasing high-priced items is just them testing to see how many of these new players might be willing to pay such exorbitant prices. If those prices remain, or become higher over time, well… there’s your answer. Enough people out there were willing to pay that and blizz realized it’s worth it for them.

Steam reviews are funny, cause Overwatch is one of the worst reviewed games of all time yet consistently ranks VERY high on actual playerbase considering how many other platforms it exists on.
It isnt consistent at all. It peaks whenever they announced anything then it tanks by the next week. It has been happenning constantly.
Fine if people want the game to die then let me have a hard copy of the game then.

How many people still play any Unreal game? That’s my lamentation. I miss me some flak cannon.
i still play UT2004 and UT3 here . Shock Rifle being my favorite
I’m gonna have to second Hungarth’s love of the Flak Cannon myself.
Really is too bad Fornite basically scuttled any chance of us getting a new UT game. Guess there’s always the UT skins in Warframe, eh?
Outside instagib, I never really liked the shock rifle. It didn’t feel all that satisfying to me, and while the exploding orb gimmick was neat, I was almost never able to pull it off in a real fight. If I wanted to gimmick people to death, I’d rather charge up a big snot ball with the bio rifle.

I am still livid till this day about this

That’s why i loved it because doing neat wall dodges and getting mad air and pulling a shock combo is so satisfying. I generally gravitate towards the more percision weapons like sniper rifle, and lightning gun. Lightning gun with DD is just chef’s kiss

I would say Gears of War is the coffin and Fortnite is the nails.
I lost braincells reading OP and even more realizing 8 people like the post.
Obviously it’s ran by a garbage group I haven’t played in months… 6+
I miss Unreal Tournament. I remember, a few months ago finally wanting to play the newest one only to find out it was cancelled
2004 was still my favorite Unreal version. Lots of great memories.
the game couldn’t stay on pay to play, since, after you buy the game, there’s no profit that would go to Blizzard,
so instead they make overpriced skins that people buy consistently, and that’s much better for them

Imagine thinking a youtuber/streamer knows better than people that work for a company that makes millions of dollars, lol.
Imagine thinking hidden talent doesn’t exist because they’re on youtube or that employees of a company are flawless at their job.
Did you even watch the video?
what, how could this game be failing, it has over 100 million players !
