I’m a flex dps player who has been hardstuck gold for as long as I can remember. One day I decided to try open queue since it was recently added (this was when hero bans were still a thing). I did all 10 placements and ended up low diamond. Next few seasons I kept trying and now I’m a high plat open queue (~2800) and high gold role queue (~2400). Does open queue kind of give an mmr reset or is it just an insanely inflated mode?
Sort of - it just doesn’t count as much because the game is balanced for 2-2-2… everyone does better in OQ, or the majority.
I don’t think so
I think the player count in that mode being lower than usual causing the ranking to be higher than the standard mode
No it’s just that you did placements for the first time for it. Usually making it a lot easier to get placed higher.
Which kinda is a reset…
My only issue with this is that when they released open queue and I did my placements, the people in all the placement matches were all plat (which is exactly what I was before they added RQ)…so it sure as heck felt like it was using some of my stats from who knows where…I ended up placing pretty much where I had left off before as well
So my answer to OP is I honestly don’t know if there was a reset or if it was fresh (though I guess I should ask if he played before RQ)…
There is no game mode that resets MMR;
MMR is a ‘Hidden’ player Rank to help the game more easily queue the player with equal skilled players.
Depending on the game mode the MMR range of the players in the lobby is bigger or smaller to decrease / increase the queue times it takes to get the players into a match.
So no, Open Queue isn’t a MMR reset and there isn’t a single game mode that resets the MMR as the MMR adjusts constantly for every played match.
Every single person on my friend list has a higher Open Queue SR than Role Queue SR.
The mode seems to be played much less than Role Queue (at least it takes me longer to find a game there, than in the Flex Queue) and if it is abandoned mostly by more competitive players of the higher ranks (since Role Queue is the main mode the game gets balanced around), then everyone else has an easier time climbing because there is a vacuum to fill.
sr is inflated, you see some plat players hit 4k on open queue and then come to rq and try to flex their sr like they good or something. Luckily i havent been plat in like 8 seasons
It doesn’t use your role queue data. It does use old open queue sr though. If you never placed your sr can fluctuate a lot.
As others have been saying, SR in Open Queue is heavily inflated. This is namely because next to nobody who is actually Masters or above will have much reason to even touch it. So when the toughest competition is on the same level as a plat/diamond, its not going to be very hard to get a higher rank. A gold hitting Masters in OQ by 6-stacking GOATs doesn’t magically become Masters in role queue. They still very much play like a gold when they go back.
Yeah it’s this, Overwatch will try and use old MMR if applicable for previous Competitive modes, otherwise your MMR will be reset which I believe starts around 2500
Competitive FFA was also a MMR reset, some seasonal modes just used your OQ MMR originally though I think nowadays it’s completely independent
Name me one attribute that is directly, verifiably related to MMR calculations.
Now please explain to me what you would achieve with a reset.
Everyone/including influential Youtubers, are requesting a reset and don’t know the slightest thing about what MMR even means or how it works.
If Blizzard ever does a “reset”, you can be sure you’ve been fooled.
