Yesterday I went to a break from Comp because the boys were getting off, so I go to practice my Widow in QP.
Immediately my team is getting rolled and smoked and I’m like, boys what’s going on down there.
So I take a little trip downtown to a place called Tab and check the players.
My team levels - 98 (me) - 4 - 23 - 6 -7 -12
Their team levels - Sliver Star 3 - Silver Star 3 - Silver Star 3 - Star 5 - Gold - Gold
And not even to mention the silvers were a stack and my team was all solos.
So something is clearly not right here. I know I get matched with people of my skill not level (so thank u OW for thinking I’m a silver player) but god damn I can’t practice with this gold lookin Hanzo headshotting me.
This happened for several games through the night, all my teammates were so low level and not even smurfing.
I dunno man either I’m a silver in level 98 or the matchmaking is broken beyond belief.
I’m not sure how matchmaking works but i doubt it matches users with level portraits.
It is unfortunate that your were matched with stacks vs all randoms. I’ve faced quite lot of matches with full stacks vs full randoms. I wish that part of matchmaking did not exist.
It does try to avoid things like that when matching. XP level doesn’t matter, as its not related to performance, but matchmaking will heavily favor placing groups of equal sizes against each other.
I think this type of scenario typically happens if people leave right at the beginning of the match, so it has to find people to fill the empty slots right away in order to avoid canceling the whole match. The players can’t necessarily tell the difference, because they’re probably in the loading screen or hero select when it happens.
I’m not sure what MMR is doing.
Yesterday I found myself just popping off with Zen - gold in everything - I checked SRs and I found myself surrounded by all bronze, two that were sub 1000, even on my team. I’m only high gold/low plat.
I know SR is different than MMR but It’s usually close to each other.
The other odd thing was all profiles except for mine were public. I felt like I was in the twilight zone during that whole match!!
