Is Kiriko Japanese or English?

Why does she sometimes speak English, and sometimes speak Japanese? Make her speak English like Hanzo or Genji, but with a Japanese accent or something. No, I’m not making fun of the voice actor. I think the voice actor is talented. I just think it’s weird for her to speak English, and throw in random Japanese sentences out of nowhere. Just make her entirely speak Japanese, or entirely speak English.

Oh yes… Because there cannot be a person, that speaks perfect English without accent, unless it is English native speaker…

C’mon… There Is plenty of people that can speak perfect english, as a SECOND language…

Almost all heroes speaks mostly English with some lines for their respective language here and there.

If you want fully Japanese kiriko just change the game language to Japanese.

Most the heroes just throw out lines in their native language?? What are you on about?

she is a wannabe japanese…

tbh her character had a lot of potential but blizzard really messed that up in almost every way.

i think its the fact that she doesn’t have a Japanese accent, they seem to be confused on which language is her first I guess?

I taught English in Japan. I met plenty of Japanese women who spoke English just as well as Kiriko does - and they weren’t “wannabe japanese” - they were pure Japanese.

So basically ‘not a true Scotsman fallacy’?

Hey, guess what? I speak English. I also speak Spanish. I am fluent in both. If I’m speaking to you in English, you wouldn’t know it wasn’t my first language since I don’t have a Spanish accent while speaking it. And if I speak to you in Spanish you wouldn’t know I actually grew up in an English speaking country because I wouldn’t have an American English accent.

You mean… like pretty much every single hero that isn’t from US/UK/Australia?
Yeah. Kiriko is so weird for doing the same thing…

Wow… I don’t know if this is trolling or just complete ignorance. You’re completely dismissing the fact people can be bilingual and assuming people need to have an accent because of where they’re from.

That is in the field of a word people don’t like being called, you might not be on the fence, or over it and in the territory you don’t want to be of it, but you’re definite seem to be climbing around on the fence for funsies.

She is Japanese. She speaks English well, She speaks Japanese well, Just like how millions of people can speak more than 1 language well in real life. Just because her character doesn’t adhere to a one dimensional stereotype of a Japanese person like Hanzo, Genji, or an Anime girl, doesn’t mean they aren’t Japanese. It’s that simple. The End.

man people are trying so hard to find something and complain about kiriko

I was born in Cape Cod, Massachusetts and i can speak 3 languages…

Now you just showing off :stuck_out_tongue:

No, people can speak multiple languages. Not what I was getting at at all, lmao. She just sounds very English. When she throws in random Japanese, it doesn’t sound natural, unlike other heroes. A thing I notice with Overwatch is that when the enemy team uses an ability, your team hears it in their native language, but when your team uses an ability, your team hears it in English. With Kiriko being the only one that doesn’t follow this pattern, it feels particularly out of place.

But she does follow that pattern?

Your team hear it in English when you ult…

And when enemy Kiriko ults you hear it in Japanese…

So just like EVERY other bilingual hero in a game

There’s a lot of bilingual speaking people in the world.

Otherwise she could be speaking Japanese and the audio is in our own language to make it easier on the viewer to understand. Just for convenience.

Then again I pretty much played tekken most of my life, in that game you have multiple characters speaking their own native language and they can understand each other clearly so I never gave it a second thought.
