Is it technically possible to make "Reduce buffering" option re-enable itself?

If yes, do it.
If no, unlucky.

Did they fix this bug like, a year ago?

Either you are lazy, or you change settings too much XD

But yeah, I agree, it should be automatically on.

I think OP is referencing a bug that OW had/has. When you alt+tab, the reduced buffering option simply stopped working even though it said “On”. One had to turn it off, apply, then turn it on again for it to work.

And do that everytime you alt+tab.

I’m pretty sure they fixed it though.

no, alt+tab out, alt+tab in = lose around 50 fps until you manually re-enable the reduce buffering option in the settings. so I wonder if it’s possible to make it re-enable itself as you alt+tab back in the game

Well that TOTALLY explains why, after I tab out to check my email or peruse Facebook during a queue, when I tab back in I start getting weird frame drop during big fights/battles over the point - which only occurs if I alt-tab at any time during the session.

Doesn’t look like it to me, even though I didn’t know it existed. It explains a LOT.

AMD or NVIDIA?

The odd thing is that reduce buffering shouldn’t affect actual FPS, not in any significant amount any way, it’s a resource to keep input lag down, not performance-costly.

If you have NVIDIA, you can force it to always on. Go in the driver, find the “Max pre-rendered frames” option and set it to 1 (the lowest). That’s basically what reduced buffering is.

It always has, weirdly, affected my FPS, but only at certain times. It coincides with big fights where I’m pressing a lot of buttons/there are a lot of effects. My video card is plenty good enough to run OW on ultra but I run it on medium for framerate purposes (since I have a crappy 60hz monitor I don’t want it getting any ideas), so I know it’s not that, and it ONLY HAPPENS if I tab out and back in.

It’s actually really frustrating because it’ll be running so smooth and a game will be going so great and then suddenly, frame drop to the point where I get a slideshow for a second or two.

Will do this, thanks. I need to be able to tab out while playing, otherwise I’d die of boredom in the dps queue.

No. Problem is still there.

borderless windowed ftw

That introduces a lot of input lag and limits your FPS. It’s pretty much like using vsync.

I play on a 60hz monitor. The FPS counter on the HUD spazzes b/t 59/60 constantly and I have no issues with input lag. :male_detective:
