So im strictly a QP player, i have less than 20 hours total in comp across all roles and never even got ranked until season 9. I have a friend who had been playing since early OW1 and never made it out of low bronze. With the rank reset in season 9 he convinced me to do placements with him and it put us both high gold on all roles. I played a few matches solo after placements and rolled enemies easily so im assuming i would have been plat/diamond if i had done them solo. More importantly he lost nearly every comp match for the rest of season and thru season 10 until he was back to bronze. Now with the ranks reset again this season, he has been begging me to do placements with him again. Am i being an @#$ for refusing since i know it will throw him in too high of a rank again and cause teamates to lose?
Not necessarily. You are being weird because you refuse to play with your friend. That’s, like, the entire point of this game. Who cares if you boost him?
Albeit, I do believe playing with consistently low ranked friends makes the system start “normalizing” your MMR to match them so you can keep playing. That’s a conspiracy, but you can trust ThiccBuddha on this one. I ain’t eva lie.
I play all the time with him in othe games modes just not comp which is a mode i typically dont play anyway
Genuinely, does it even matter? I smurf to play with friends all the time. Am I boosting them? Maybe, but more importantly, I’m spending time with friends
No, you’ll just get to a point you can no longer carry and lose 
Honestly you should prolly take a chill pill and realize if you have not put any comp hours in prior the MM is basically calibrating your MMR. Which more or less means it will toss your rank around.
It’s hard to say. I was stuck in B5 since the B5 bug. Season 9 placed me in Silver. Then I went 30-0 and went to Gold 5. Now I’ve won enough games to be Gold 2(one more win for G1). I could probably get to Plat, but I switched over to DPS. I was B5 on that too and now I’m Silver 4. I think I can get it to Gold. I think the placement misjudged your friend or he goofed up. Placements can easily do that. I used to do that by playing at odd hours. I straight up got stuck in low Bronze but my alt stays in Gold and Plat. I pretty much hate comp because of this ranking system though. It’s awful. Everyone I talked to in these forums blamed me for being stuck in B5. The ranking is a joke. Now if you play with him it’s wide queue, so that’s not boosting.
I think it’ll put you in a wide queue. If it does that, you may want to try it out.
Honestly im suprised with all the responses. One of the main reasons i avoid comp is how toxic people are especially when losing. Seeing a lot of people priorizing playing with friends over winning is refreshing. Maybe there is hope for this community after all.
Oh, maybe those people are new. These comp matches make no sense at all. How could I be B5 and then magically be Gold after placements and a 30 win streak? I feel like I got lucky and was unlucky for 8 seasons thanks to that bug putting me in B5. Low Bronze is full of trolls and smurfs. It’s insane. Also Plat on another account. I think it can’t be taken seriously. I always feel like I’m rolling dice when I queue, lol.
