The general idea behind GOATS was to play together in a tight, brawling configuration, and focus down enemy heroes one after another, as quickly as possible. Even without three tanks and three supports, this play style should be viable. Has anyone been seeing or testing comps like Rein/Zarya/Lucio/Brig/Mei/Reaper in the PTR? Perhaps sub out Reaper for Soldier, or Brig for Moira, for more AOE healing when necessary.
Swap the Brigitte for an Ana or Moira, and you have an actual composition.
Haven’t played a lot of Brig in PTR yet; I know her healing buffs weren’t enough to make her main healer by any stretch, but was hoping a tight brawling comp with self-healing DPS and Zarya for damage mitigation might make it viable anyway. That said…you’re probably right.
I think what you’re describing is deathball or dive comp.
Thing that made goats strong was 3 supports.
Without that its not goats
& everything i see & read says brig is a shocker atm.
That’s deathball, dive isn’t so brawly.
Slambulance was pretty dominant in EU Contenders even before GOATS itself came out, and it was a good point specific comp for everyone. Replacing Hog with Brig pushed it over the edge, and allowed for a lower output healer in place of Moira, but she wasn’t the centerpiece holding it all together.
Still probably can’t run with limited tanks.
UM, Dude that’s not what goats was about at all LMAO
Goats was about sustaining long team fights until the pressure breaks the enemy team. Not about focusing targets quickly at a time. Goats does a surprisingly low amount of damage, it’s the sustain that made it strong. No long term sustain = no goats. That’s why 3 off healers were played, to sponge damage in the long run when needed.
Well, it’s not possible to have the OG GOATS comp…
As far as trying to replicate the spirit of GOATS in 2-2-2, I dunno. The whole point is to have epic sustain. GOATS did this by having three supports and huge HP pool. I’m not sure any combo of only 2 supports will ever yield enough sustain to really emulate GOATS. Also, given you have to have 2 DPS the HP pool is never going to be high enough either. On the other hand, with 2 DPS you have more damage and shouldn’t need to sustain as long to win a fight.
TL:DR: No.
Best setup i can think up that matches high sustain and high aoe healing:
Rein, zarya, lucio, baptiste (shooting at his feed most of the time) , tjorb with overload during the fight, reaper.
But dva and brig did more then just being meatshields and instant heal. Stun able to dive etc… You will always have weaknesses. So even running hard to kill brawl type of heroes, it can be countered. A simple pharah can for example already destroy this comp. So having a setup that can not be beaten by anything has become impossible.
Id use mei, doomfist
Because the synergy of wall behind the enemy punch them into it.
Rein, Zarya, Brig, Lucio, Doomfist, and Mei.
It wouldn’t be goats but you could run a Mei as she is kind of like an off tank and maybe a Soldier for some extra healing.
Goats is about 2.5 defensive ults and 3 AOE healing + 3 tanks who all get healed at the same time by 3 AOE heals.
You cant have 3 AOE heals and you have to have 2 squishies who need burst heals, so no, you cant do goats
Yeah, Reinhardt, Zarya, Moira, Lucio, Mei and Hanzo on attack is close to GOATS in terms of a brawl comp where you just try to set up a wall split and pin for your engage and then fight it out in a scrap. I also think their could be a similar viable set up with Reinhardt, Zarya, Moira, Brigitte, Mei and Symmetra that just YOLOs onto point and holds its ground. Reaper is kind of garbage, don’t go that route.
Mei exists ana mercy makes upfor the loss of a healer its basically already happening
