Is it Lag or me?

I know the servers have been notoriously laggy, but I honestly thought it got better.

Some games are okay, some games are absolutely horrific. But then, my wifi went out about a week ago and I feel it’s been a little off since?

I played my first game so well, and then my last game was terrible because of all the rubber banding.

Is it servers, my wifi or both?

There is certainly more lag than usual. Not simple one-off client connections issues. The bug report forums have it noted, and some people have been testing it in various discords.

They may have dialed back hosting, or are binning more PC players into xplay lobbies (for casual modes), where the entire netcode could be adjusted for clunker worse hardware (and worse players). So you get this perceived lag even when it sort of looks fine. Maybe they even tier their hosting → only high ranked Battlepass accounts get clean crisp servers in comp modes only. The rest get some gutter tier cost savings.

Or it could be DDA rigging, as several of their patents claim to rig i/o to smooth out lobbies. This would be experienced as lag at the worst time, favour the under-performer kind of netcode dynamics, noregs vs. freehits, hitbox scaling, and modification of other in-game params, etc.

Holy crap dude. Enough.

Naaa, every gamer needs to know about DDA and companies that patent it.

The other day I had 400 ping for an entire match. Never got kicked but literally couldn’t walk out of spawn because of rubber banding. Forget playing the game properly.

Likely your wifi, playing on wifi is not ideal, unless you got really good router and wifi adapter that are close to each other. OW server in my experience is pretty good, much better than Apex, Cod. You can ping your router to check your LAN latency and packet loss rate. There is also a packet loss test website you can use you test your network.

It’s not hard to diagnose wifi lag. Ping the router, or better yet use a tool like traceroute.

Is he ironic with this or serious?

I can barely understand what he talks about and it comes across as schizophrenic/mentally ill. I’m legit concerned about a lot of people on this forum…

He is serious, and yes it is very worrying.

what region do you play in?

Is it Lag or me?

SAME, bro

same.

Probably a cause for this could be the “automated” nature of the matchmaker where it won’t let you pick what servers you want at all, and just does it for you.

I’ve had that before in other games where I’ll be getting servers 7000 miles in the other direction and apparently the developers just expect you to be able to play with high ping, I have no clue why they can’t just let us select the servers we wish to be in, but whatever.

most games are smooth, but I hit with some really weird lag spikes overall.

where everyone in the match seems confused for a second.

Like at one point both teams supports were on the wrong side of the point doing 180’s or getting instantly blown up.

I had a good laugh, as I got a backline sleep on the enemy tank. Then died.

Often wifi isn’t the best way to play. But you should check the icons to help diagnose, due sometimes windows update or background software kick in. Discord can generate some problems too.

While OW2 itself have some client problems, which isn’t translated on server ones.

One pretty annoying is about knockdown mechannics that pretty much are broken, which is really messed up. Everybody would think that everything is fine, while the player who got affected would be annoyed, even worse due being a client side problem others will not notice at all.

Which was introduced from OW2 new engine and some crappy implementation.

This game has a ton of problems, so my bet would be test it out with a cable and if the problem stays the issue could be both or your wifi would be fine.

A lot of the complaints come from smurf accounts. These are pro-gamers with solid, verifiable hardware and provider connections. They know when they’re being “slowed”. Could it be some kind of shadow ban on your actions/minute in low rated lobbies? Or is the live-service just that bad and unable to keep up.

I wonder if we could get some devs to go on record about this so-called ‘new engine’.
I was under the impression it was basically OW1 with some better visuals and sounds.

They could tell us what optimizations they did, and whether or not there are new kinds of lag-compensation, on-the-fly param adjustments based on presented skill deltas in match, like aim and hitbox reg scaling, i/o throttling, etc.

You know, the client/server + DDA stuff that would make this game a travesty towards gamers.

Your problem is playing on wifi, should be hardline whenever possible. signal fluctuates constantly when using wifi.

You realize they could just be saying “omg my wifi” or “omg my roomate” “my college internet” or “stop downloading all that hent” because that’s just gamer slang.

There is an increased lag problem since recently. They likely did something to the servers. You have to play a lot to notice it. It’s particularly obvious in crossplay lobbies and low ranked lobbies, where I suspect they run cheaper servers and deprio some packets over others to slow everything down and make it less oppressive. They could be saving the expensive metal for high rated comp.

I had this idea when I was playing on ps3 that the connection in games was going to improve thousand fold. I was wrong. I don’t know how substantially better tech has the same problems as ancient technology, yet here we are.

Every single match, usually more than once I’m shot through a wall, abilities go off, and do nothing, I die on a health pack, and didn’t pick it up. I do fully understand that the game registers me being in a different spot, but it’s been over a decade since I first noticed this happening, and yet it’s still happening. My screen is what matters to me, not some random spot on the map that the game registers me in.

It’s just more evidence of a shabby game. Can’t wait to be fully in cover and die to a dva bomb again, or get shot through multiple walls by some random character. It all makes for such an incredible game play experience.
