I know people do but It feels really punishing to queue up as a tank if you only solo or duo queue.
My friend and I both play tank him Reind and me Zarya because we have amazing syerngy. But we both notice that when we win its only 20 sr (sometimes less) a win but when we lose its 25+ up to and even past 30sr for a loss.
he’s constantly at 30k + damage blocked sometimes higher. I’m not sure what my average energy is but I am consistently achieving 3 gold medals 1 silver or 4 silver medals. Often getting PoTG but I don’t know how much that counts towards SR. Why does it feel so punishing for a loss but so much of a grind to win. It’s almost a 2-1 ratio…you have to win 2 games to make up for the one loss.
I love to tank and want to get better at it and rank up but it feels so punishing right now…anyone else feel this same way?

My apologies if my post is a bit vague.
In answer to your question, it is very possible to rank up as a tank player. As a matter of fact, I’d say its perhaps the easiest role to rank up (the impact of dps is overrated compared to tanks, for example). What I have discovered is that the tanks that rank up are the ones who:
- aren’t deterred by all the **** thrown their way
- move with purpose and determination. They know where they’re going and what they want to do
- are at least somewhat self reliant (even Rein can survive and thrive on bad heals)
- can get kills, farm ult, and avoid death
I’ve been in plat for a long while, so I might not be the greatest giver of advice (largely because i gave up on comp a while back), but I do know that as a tank, you hold the most power over the game than any other role, and simply by existing and being an aggressive presence, you can win so many games.

No. Just gotta be a smart tank player

To put it simply,
No.
It’s just that your plays and what you do affect the outcome of the match more than the DPS and Supports.

Of course you can. If you are getting poor SR as tank for wins then open up your profile and check your stats on overbuff. You can see how your stats relate to others playing the same tank. It will give you a good idea as to why your SR gains are not great.
I’d also recommend having a strategy for when healers ignore you or when they go two off healers.
I’ve climbed from low plat to diamond with tank with solo/duo so it’s not really impossible.

I play mt and I went from bronze to high masters. If u rly want sr just play orisa sig.
I don’t know what rank you are, but at the lower ranks, pressing W as a tank is a huge carry. Rein and zarya work amazingly together, with your friend swinging into the enemy tanks with bubble. Telling your team to follow up and rush the enemy team helps a lot. As a tank, your job is to be aggressive, not stand at the choke waiting for your dps to get a pick.

Tank are way easier to rank up than dps for sure
Not only impact but because of queue times. If you get a leaver or some other random event that causes a loss and your SR is lower than it should be and you’re going to have a win rate above 50% the fact you can get in twice as many games as tank makes it easier to climb.
A masters player in diamond isn’t going to have 100% win rate until they hit master, they’ll have 55-60% so the more games you get in the sooner you’ll climb.

Not impossible at all. At one point I went from low gold to mid plat on tank in like a week. It was frustrating at times, but not as frustrating as on dps because of the queue times.
Just play Zarya or Ball and you can pretty much solo carry if you’re good enough, at least in ranks like gold/plat. Hog probably also works but I don’t play him at all so can’t speak from experience.
In my case apparently not. I’ve ranked-up from from <500 to <500.
I wouldn’t know how much I win/lose, what my +/- pbsr is, because they don’t keep score for you in <500. You’re just labelled ‘off the spectrum’ and provided fewer in-game services.
Tank is the easiest rank to carry with in the game.
HAHAHAAAAA…not in gold it isnt…if your dps are dead weight…gl friend.
I find the same, as before role q I always thought I was a tank/support main (most hours are on Dva and Lucio) and I was usually around high plat. Since role q I’m consistently low diamond on support and usually around high gold/low plat on tank. Tank is the hardest role for me. Even with my meagre dps hours I can still maintain a mid-high plat rank. These days I play the most on tank as I want to get it higher, but I’ll win some games, get back in plat, then lose a ton and end up back in gold. Those games just seem tougher to me.
I haven’t played this game in a while but you can rank up, Here’s one unmentioned issue you will face:
Everybody and they’re Mom thinks they’re the leader and shot caller. But you can look at old videos from The OWL that tell you and show that main tank says where the team goes. It’s not an ego thing, that’s how it works. Doesn’t mean other people don’t talk but even if the main tank goes the ‘wrong’ direction the team should be moving with it. Again, from the pros.
If main tank dies, 2nd tank is supposed to take over that role until main tank is back.
But NOOooooo don’t bother with that advice! Keep Yolo 1v6ing the team, try support flanking the enemy and deep striking dps! Keep running to the point one at a time! It’s totally gonna work
Most of my matches as tank end up with me doing all the grunt work alone because the other tank is off 1 v 6 on ball
