I don’t know whether the reason of my losing streaks is my high latency or I’m an all around bad player? I’ve taken on healing mostly with Moira, Brigitte and Zen since Reinhardt became the laughing stock of tanks.
How much of an effect does ping (playable numbers) have on your rank? Is it pointless to try and climb to diamond with 140-160 (most of the time 160) ping?
Over 100ms ping is pretty harsh. It’s not unplayable, but you’re at a disadvantage to be sure.
I got to diamond with 130-150 ping ,you’ll be fine.
Ping is sometime not everything, like the stability of it is important too. You might be master if you were having a 30ms ping or less.
Brigitte is the hero that probably suffer less from the ping issue. Moira you gonna get hit because you could not evade at time or crouch AD. You can have pretty high damage on Zen and kill flankers by himself, but with 140ms ping it is a disavantage for sure.
At best I have 20-30ms ping but recently I have at best 60-80ms unstable ping.
I supposed to be master and I play almost everything, especially high skills heros, but used to play support (ana, zen mostly). Hitscan heros are unplayble, I would fit in platin games. And maybe low diamong with stuff like winston, brigitte…
On the other hand you can look at Kabaji streamer, he play a lot of Tracer and sometimes goes on server with 150ms ping, but still manage to hit top 500. But his ping is stable. Not sure how it work, but unstable ping probably result in higher IND (interpolation and smoothness of data gotten from server), resulting in jittery movement from others players. And it become very visible with a 144hz screen.
So to answer you, if your game is still very reactive, due to good interpolation most probably and stability of ping. You might do very well like Kabaji (note that Kabaji has <20ms ping when playing on nearest server, meaning he has fiber optic good connection).
Otherwise you will hit a wall around diamond I say. At some point everyone know the game quite good, and composition of team are correct to not too bad. Personal skill make a good difference, but equipment is more important (like having a 5 euros mouse is -500 to -1000 in ranking compared to gaming mouse correctly configured).

Look up Kabaji on YouTube. He’s a Top 500 Tracer main, and when he plays on US servers he has 150ms ping - hence the account name “Kabaji150ms.” You can definitely climb.

Does… Does this mean Im t500 if I buy mega ultra hyper gamingX420 mouse? I highly doubt so. Like rest of ur post was… Just telling ur self you would be so much better if u had better gear. If you got internet (<300ms) and 60fps (prolly even lower, like 30-40 stable is enough) you can go to gm/t500.
