Than if you play in groups? Are most of the people in the highest ranks playing in groups, or are they lone wolves? Honestly don’t know and was wondering.
For GM+ you can’t have any more than 1 other person in your group. For that reason, I generally play either alone or with one other person.
From my experience, it’s about the same for ranking up either way though there are some exceptions. Two stacking as tanks at higher SR is really good for example.
I’ve heard that the best way to rank up is with a duo, because playing with large pre mades will put you up against tougher opponents.
Solo queue is definitely a viable way of climbing, back when I played comp I solo climbed from 800-3035. You’ll just need a lot of mental strength and flexibility lol.
Im going to be honest with you, I have an easier time climbing on my own or with at the very least one other person to play with. 3 is the max you should ever have to climb and you better hope your friends are gods at their roles. Anything higher than 3 is a party and your games will be drastically harder. The game will force you to face other stacks or worse, players that are miles better than you guys. 1 is easiest to climb, 2 is my max for climbing, 3 is sweat mode, 4 and up is a party. I hope this helps
It’s important to remember that the people you play with in a group need to be capable of climbing as much as you. If they’re not able to reach high masters for example, they’re simply dragging you down.
I’ve never had luck with groups and have only ever played comp solo after I think like season 3.
Solo queue with no comms whatsoever is my preferred way. Focus on what you’re doing and not what pitiful “call out” someone else is doing.
I got top 500 season 30 (the last time I cared to actually try in comp) by playing only Dva solo queue no comms so it’s definitely possible.
For gm+ and even masters ig, duo’ing is the way to go if you have someone who is not only good, but plays heroes that compliment your hero pool. But i think duo’ing gets alot better the higher you climb, and isn’t that effective for low ranks.
Low-mid ranks, solo que is the way to go. Duo’ing and so on becomes really risky the further you get from gm, because it means your duo partner is more often than not an average-worse player… you can’t really just look at their hero pool and see if they’d compliment your hero pool, but you also need to see their flaws. Do they have bad game sense? Positioning? Ult management? Peeling? etc… you have to be really careful grouping with low-mid players even if you are a low-mid player.
Your hero pool could match up, but it turns out they maintain plat/diamond because they’re bad at, for example, understanding team comps and not only knowing how to shift your playstyle to compliment your team comp and make it harder for the opposing team comp to break your team or you… but also knowing where certain heroes thrive and/or are countered by other heroes/comps… and ofcoarse, this is just one of many problems someone can have…
The other rrason large premades don’t work is the higher you climb the more pressure testing your group is under and at some point you will climb as high as one of you can go and the group sill crack. I always find it’s best to duo or solo.
Both have their cons and pros.
Solo games are easier in general, more balanced matchmaker.
Groups are usually handicapped, because mm punishes you for having group advantage.
But playing solo is all about the grind, you will lose at least 15-30% of your games even if you are 2-3 ranks above on your main, that is how mm handicapping works for overperforming solos with winrates over 65%
Duo tanks are great especially if you have some decent synergy for things like dive.
