I understand that some people believe that hiding the player’s rank is to prevent people from leaving after seeing their teammate’s rank. However, I believe that players who will leave will do so regardless of whether the rank is shown. There are people leaving after seeing the first team fight anyway.
The developers planned to introduce the average rank for each team, but is it even helpful? It may be easier for players to be more understanding towards those who are underperforming if they are aware of the individual’s rank.
Also, if the matchmaker does what it’s supposed to do, the rank should be very close anyway.
My opinion is simple and straightforward: We want complete transparency on competitive play.
While I understand some people wanna hide their playtime on heroes to avoid toxicity and people asking them to swap, there’s some things that just can’t be hidden when playing ranked games.
Firstly, ranks. There is no question to be asked here, I need to know what rank my supports or my tank is and I need to know if the enemy has a GM2 dps on my Master 1 game (so we can play around that) or if they have a Master 5 support (same reason).
Moreover, preferred heroes. Sure, you can hide exact playtime and performance, but all players should know top 3 preferable heroes per role. For example show for my supports:
I think such a change would only promote teamplay and not toxicity. You can formulate plans based on ranks/picks and they’re usually very effective to be honest.
Hiding player’s rank as default wasn’t as bad when the matchmaker used to put bronze in bronze, with occasional low silver. But now that they’re putting golds and even plats in some of the bronze games for faster matchmaking, it’s leading to people questioning the rank of the players in their lobby even more.
Well said Kapoof that’s pmuch the issue with obfuscating the entire experience.
And without an LFG (force comms, profiles) to even take quality control into your own hands, it’s not only fake/rigged but also feels dead.
WE NEED TO SEE THE RANKS AND FAVORITE HEROES IT SHOULD NOT EVEN BE A QUESTION AT THIS POINT!!!
FFS no it will not help. It’s the same thing as not having a rank.
This is the only game that I know where you can’t see the ranks of your teammates, hell ranks don’t even matter it’s just a f****** illusion
Everybody is with everybody silvers in diamond, diamond in gm, gold in master XDDDDDDDDDDDD.
And some people just accept it like “It is what it is”
I guess it is what it is
Not only that, literally every change they made from OW1 to OW2 made comp worse (apart from making it a 5v5 and individual statistics). Hiding profiles, hiding rank, removing SR in favor of crappy 5 to 1 tiers, the ‘on fire’ thing, the new horrible rank icons. Imagine you rank to Masters and people think you’re Gold because the icons are the same. Way to incentivize climbing. I remember how much I wanted that cool glowing golden shiny icon on my profile. Now I’m like whatever. Even Diamond icons was pretty cool back in OW1.
Who cares though. The devs don’t read this forum since 2020 so they certainly don’t.
Another spot-on take. Give scoreboard which is 10x the toxx of open profs but hide ranks, hide profs, hide stacks, basically just hide all even obfuscate nameplates (so streamers can stomp you and get content $)??
Time for some explainable algs so we can sure they aren’t full of fake/ded/rigged or just bugs/badcoders.
I understand why they did it - so people wouldn’t get flamed for having loads of hours in the game and still being gold. But at the same time, it’s still stupid. It’s competitive. People wanna know if they’re playing with lower or higher ranked players. Having transparency is so important for the quality of the matches.
Private profiles are another thing that I’ve always hated. It’s good to be able to see what your teammates and enemy play so that you can play to your teams strengths and enemy’s weaknesses. It also lets you ask why a one trick is playing a character they have basically 0 hours on.
It’s frustrating, because I actually think balanced ranked matches in 5v5 feel WAY better than 6v6, the matchmaker just sucks 90% of the time, and them hiding ranks is just another way of hiding the fact that the matchmaker prioritises queue times over balance.
You can have without knowing GMs in the opposite team regardless of whether they have their ranks are hidden or not cos since its launch OW had a ton of smurfs who are just keeping an account to satisfy their ego and all of the others for super-easy matches, that’s why the Breonze is the true GM rank.
No, it has the opposite effect of this and people will throw games just because they have [whatever] rank on their team, intentionally or unintentionally. Same with account XP.
Play what is happening during the game in front of you not from profiles or whatever.
You are like the ostrich hiding its head in the sand apologizing for the devs’ bad decisions. If you can’t see them, there aren’t any of them.
Most of the players want easy wins that’s why the hordes of cheaters and smurfs against which the placebo-anti-cheat software is powerless. That’s why most of the GMs have smurf accounts in the lower ranks, and that’s why so many players are buying cheating software. And it’s not only in OW2 or any other games or in real life. Everybody is doing just because they can and no one is questioning them until proven wrong.
To a certain point, they are justified cos of the social and media pressure of winning at any cost since always.
If I knew the current rank of individual players, I would still not be able to do anything about bad matchmaking, it’s bad enough to see M and GM titles of boosted players in diamond, going 3/14 on your team and 30/2 on the enemy team. I don’t really care what their current rank is, they are just as bad/good with or without an obviously irrelevant stat displayed.
I as a silver 1 dps I got thrown into a plat 3 game… as a solo queue to boot. We did win the game. I just played super defensively and just tried to exist as much as I could and went 21-7.
I do want transparency in my games. The thing is I just don’t think there is as much difference in ranks as there once was in general. I am not saying I belong in plat cause I won 1 game. But I think most of the “fluff” is long out of the competitive ladder.
Bad play is going to get punished even in the dregs now days. If you were to put together 10 players from say bronze 1 to silver 1 you probably couldn’t tell who is who. I remember when high silver and low silver was a night and day difference.
Most sub gold games are generally decided by tank play still till this day. It’s just that as dps you are able to survive a bit better due to the healing passive that kicks in. It has saved me countless times.
Allow private profiles for the precious little guys that need the eyes off them. But they absolutely need to have the preview screen that shows everyone’s ranks at the start of the game and have their rank on the scoreboards or something. But then again, you’re seeing match ranges of p4-m3 and one team can be all plats. so yeah, hiding it helps cover the awful team building too.
