Is Hanzo luck or skill?

Seems like Hanzo has 2 playstyles. One being skill where you actually line up shots and land them on purpose. Second being lob arrows near someone and luckily they walk into it. Such a very “interesting” character since day 1.

He’s both. Which is one of the reasons they nerf’d his arrow speed a while back.

(I’m a Hanzo main) with many many hours into the hero, he’s become my most consistent (fall back hero).

But honestly there are a lot of situations/circumstances where Hanzo isn’t the pick.

Generally running McCree, Mei, Ashe sometimes (though not very strong), Pharah or Echo is better.

You should see the “interesting” patents on making sure projectiles register at a relatively consistent rate, to smooth out games and make team fights suddenly close. It’s called DDA in the industry.

They have tech for aim-assist and lag-comp built-in. The server will favour your sloppy aim and close enough becomes good enough. In OW it scales hitbox reg and the like, to give kids “pop off” moments - making sure they stay with your brand.

Doing too well? Hard to land pro skill. Doing poorly? call.treetrunks(Disney_MakeAWish)

I think he’s mostly skill. I never play Damage role, but if I did, I’d try to get Hanzo down. He takes a lot of patience and knowledge of his arrow drop to utilise efficiently, otherwise it becomes demoralising to keep missing shots and can cost valuable opportunities

Simple geometry.

He’s the Junkrat of the arrows.

Both. An unskilled Hanzo wont contribute. He can be easily countered, dived, and wont get much done.

Luck is required. With the amount of movement abilities, A-D crouch spam, also all the no-regs which can be quite frustrating…and one more thing: u miss all the shots u dont take so before i dont take any shots, i rather take any shots and hope someone comes around the corner.

His E is a terrible ability tho and as i said when it hit Experimental: completely Busted!

@cgibees Still has learning curve, especially on console. I imagine pc is easier due to mouse aiming but being far superior

He is ten percent luck
Twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will
Five percent pleasure
Fifty percent pain
And a hundred percent reason to remember the name

he’s a bit of both. Sometimes it’s best to just spam arrows down the choke and hope for a headshot or if you’re at long range just take pot shots and hope one of them hit. I feel like hanzo is at his best in a couple scenarios though:

1: shooting at people who aren’t aware of you since they won’t try to dodge.

2: shooting the same target as your team since then they’ll have to choose who to dodge. For example if your rein is swinging at zen he can’t dodge both your arrows and the hammer

3: playing around corners in close-mid range so you can quickly peek out, take the shot and move back in cover

other than that hanzo is also pretty good at killing ashe and widow in midrange since they have slow movement speed while scoped. Dueling widow at long range though is super risky since you probably won’t hit while she most likely will

Totally agree. Every time I play Hanzo I feel like I have some serious aim assist going on - like I’m playing a console shooter with M/KB. A lot of those arrows almost jump to people’s heads. It’s actually quite annoying to play, for me, because I’m used to hitscan; where I generally land shots where I aim (I am not referring to the predictive aim nature of projectile, I’m referring to the way the projectiles interact with targets you fire them at). Hanzo’s arrows almost seem magnetic to people’s heads at times. There have been several instances where streamers have demonstrated arrows literally curving in the air to headshot them… so the game has something going on to force Hanzo’s damage consistency up.

I notice this a TON when dueling Hanzos on Widowmaker. The arrow basically flies past your face, yet you get headshot by it, Lol.

That’s not to say some people aren’t just good on him. If you has gotten past the 8th grade, projectile heroes should not be an uncrackable problem for you… I just don’t like that it feels like the game is helping me a bit too much to land shots, as it makes it hard to develop a consistent muscle memory with him - speaking personally. I don’t have this issue with hitscan heroes, or even Mei.

I notice this a lot when playing him, and when playing against him. Frankly, playing against a Hanzo is just a few steps beyond playing against a Torb, for me.

A good mix of both but mostly skill. Getting kills from long ranges consistently is gonna come down to luck, but hitting shots close+ medium range comes down to skill and knowing where to spam, knowing you’ll hit an enemy in a cluster
