Is dragonblade a bad ult?

So we all know how good nanoblade or mercy pocket blade can be. But the naked blade is honestly just bad.

You need to get on top of the enemy to swing at them but you only have deflect to protect you and your damage can be healed up pretty easily.

I understand buffing it too much can make it broken but in its current state it’s close to the worst dps ult(by itself)

Thoughts?

You can hard-carry every fight with it singlehandedly. Or you can hard-throw and do absolutely nothing

It’s just got its effective range maxed out,

so bad players think it’s really bad, mid players are “meh” about it, and godly players are blade mains and focus on nothing else each match, and often win games with it

I think that hero designs suffer when too much of their power goes into their ult. Genji doubly so, as too much of his power goes into someone else’s ult synergising with his ult.

I’d much rather see Genji get a stronger base kit than see any kind of blade buff, indeed I’d love a blade nerf such as making it not damage amplifiable, like Hanzo’s ult.

It’s not bad but it’s mediocre as hell and doesn’t make up for genji’s mid-fight being abysmal. Pretty much every support can easily deny.

It’s not bad. You can still get value with a nano-less dragonblade but it’ll be harder since you’re more likely to die when you dash right into a team of 5 without your allies

It’s still a very strong ult when used with any modicum of thought.

It’s one of the best dps ult for me, naked or not, second to echo.

ps: I almost forgot about sorjourn ult, definitely better than blade if there’s no shield.

When did it get it’s range buffed?
Can you link patch notes?

It’s pretty far from the worse DPS ultimate. Those ultimates are much worse:

Bob,
Bastion’s ult,
High noon,
Dragon strike,
Barrage,
Death Blossom,
Tactical Visor,
Pulse Bomb,
Infra-sight,

In Overwatch 1, Dragonblade averaged more eliminations per Competitive game than any other Damage or Tank Ultimate.

It’s not bad.

Blade is one of the best dps Ults there is because almost nothing can block it. It goes through barriers, it goes through defense matrix, it goes through Sigma grasp. Not sure about Doom and Ramattra block, but thats only for themselves and doesnt help teammates. Only hope you have against it when your the first squishy the Genji is dashing at with his blade is landing sleep dart or hook, if the Genji doesnt deflect. Or you have a goated Kiriko which suzus at the right moment. But suzu counters everything, so thats not a blade weakness.

I’m convinced that everyone that said dragon blade is good here is stuck in plat……

It is a mid ult its like soldier ult but worse because you guve up your range option for a 5 meter sword on its own in mid not bad but not good its all in the habds of the player but with ana boost its insanely good like soldier ult.

its bad alright just like the powerglove

There’s one thing you can do. Literally look at the crazy ninja man screaming off the top of his lungs and just shoot him. you don’t need to block, genji has 200 hp. Literally just kill him. If genji uses deflect that’s him giving away time from his 8 second ult. His dashes are supper buggy and have a stupid cast animation. He is not hard to kill

6 second ult you mean

Thats like every ult in the game

Okay bob is the best dps ult in the game it contest points and has insane health and auto aim its amzing.

High noon is long range one shots and with one less tank you can kill 3 people very quick

Dragon strike is super good it just say he you on point tiem to die

Barrage i would agree is worse.

Death blossom does 500dps to ever person and heals reaper is one of the best

Tatical visor is aim bot and he still keeps his range un like genji who looses his range option fully

Pulse bomb is amazing damage and charges insanly fast but it is in the lower ranks of dps ults

Bastion ult is acuaky not that bad people arel earning how to use it better and just needed more time with it

And infro sight is not a damage ult its a intel ult and a good widow will just shut down an area when its poped

So the way i would personly change it is up the damge to 130 to 135 and up the time to 8 seconds and ups his movement speed a little but it cant be nano damge boosted cant be mercy boosted and cant befit from zen discord orb

I’d be interested in trying a larger cleave/stronger slash but only like one BIG swing

Dash reset, wind-up/ult call out, big anime kill sweep, done

He would lose out on being able to roll the team with those juicy dash resets but not being locked in blade mode and having a fast/strong one and done ultimate also sounds valuable (less reason to nano)

On the enemy’s side, they could use their tools to try and block the one strike instead of blocking/avoiding a stream of them

On Genji’s side, it opens the door for maybe a buff like “big sprint speed boost until you swing” or “can wallrun during ult” (like Lucio).

Overall, it would feel more like Junkrat’s Tire only with Genji’s body instead

Maybe in Overwatch 1, it was decent. But in Overwatch 2? Sometimes, it gets deleted before it even reaches a wall.
It only has 1000 hp. With a crit box. It doesn’t move, you can stun it, sleep it, hack it for the full duration.

Reminder Torb’s turret does have 250hp, no crit box and it’s not possible to boop it or sleep it. And on top of that, it charges Torb’s ult. Torb’s turret is unironically better than bob. Let that sink in.

If those 3 people do not move. More often than not, you’re lucky to get one kill and not die in the process.
It’s mostly used to tank stuff that would kill you or reload your gun. An ultimate you use to reload your gun. Let that sink in.

People can just walk away from it. More often than not, it doesn’t get a kill.

People usually don’t play that grouped up.
More often than not, Reaper does die during his ult.
On top of that, Reaper is extremely easy to read. You know when he’s planning on using his ult. So it’s very easy to react to it.

It doesn’t crit, though. You have to aim at their head during your ult, when the UI during the ult is super obnoxious and makes it 10 times harder to aim.
So overall, you could spend a game without popping your ult and no one would even notice. Not a great ultimate.

If you stick it, you’ll get one kill. But that’s kind of it, it’s not amazing. If you don’t stick it, it’s not going to kill anyone, unless you recall into it.

It’s meh.
Sometimes, it gets a kill. But more often than not, it just damages someone and doesn’t kill them.

Sure.
But it doesn’t do much on its own. It’s easy to counter.
