Maybe it’s because I’m platinum but i rarely get to play a full dive comp. Which is sad because dive has always been my favorite way to play. I like the fast pace of it and the theory around it but whenever I get into games everyone seems to default to something else.
might be unpopular but i absolutely just hate playing against dive
dive tanks with triple your health and mitigation goomba stomping your head and you don’t do enough damage to threaten them before they get out
also tracer never getting any meaningful nerfs like… ever
i don’t think it takes any more coordination than brawl or rush. winton jumps onto someone? just follow them as tracer or genji and they get overwhelmed. in rush at least the lucio or now juno will have to coordinate who they’re speed boosting onto
I love dive. It’s my favorite way to play. It’s also by far the most skillful way to play.
Dive seems to be the only thing that works in most of my games
The slower tanks just move forward and get surrounded and shredded
i agree but i also tend to get people who want to play poke which imo is just boring as hell and doesnt require any coordination
I would love to play dive, it feels tactical. But i would hate to be on the receiving end having to deal with a giga Tank jump on me, run around the corner and here comes Ms.Tracer.
After leaving all my teammates to die and barely escape with 1 HP, the last thing you heard was ‘boop’…
personally i dont mind being on the receiving end. whenever i die i dont mind it because the other team probably did some coordination to secure the kill and that to me is cool
i hate dive because of what theyve done to dive…seems like everthing is becoming dive now.
i cant stand that doomfist is now a tank…but he’s really just a dps with a LOT more hit points…
at lower ranks, people dont peel like they should so if you have a multi dive comp, the supports just have to sit there all game and take it…
I promise you it happens in higher elos too.
I mainly play doom (I can play whatever) but the amount of times I will auto lock doom first and both my dps go double hitscan or my supports go something that doesn’t work with dive… 100x more often than when I actually get dive players.
It’s insane how many tracer players exist and yet… I can’t find ONE.
I can count on one hand how many dive comps I’ve actually got to play in throughout this entire season.
It’s mainly the problem of… dive heroes are all the hardest heroes in the game, ON TOP of the fact that coordinating a dive, even as a concept, is just straight up harder than all of the other team comps.
Rush is easier, Poke is easier, Bunker was easier, Brawl is easier, etc etc.
So people will just default to the easier cookie clicker heroes.
If it’s skill match up then yes, i concur. But with the new Sombra and giga Winston, they took a lot of skills away from playing dive.
Doom, Jamster,.Yracer, and Genji are hard. Winsto and Sombreno are not, in my opinion.
winston is hard on the lines of game IQ and knowing what to do, when not to do stuff.
It’s very easy to try and play winston and even right now in his most unkillable state ever, to just go in and blow up instantly because you went in at the wrong time.
Sombra yea no Idk where people have this idea or fantasy that sombra is hard. She isn’t. Her kit is fundamentally forgiving. People just mistake a character being weak as them being difficult to play.
Dive heroes are generally pretty forgiving. Since they have mobility and many times multiple ways to go about it they can generally bail out at any time. Tracer can do some insanely risky plays by say triple blinking in, then is not punished because she gets recall.
These heroes are specifically designed to do hit and run tactics and therefore are very forgiving and rarely fully commit to a strategy. With their mobility they can be more self sufficient as well. They can quickly capitalize upon a 2v1 straggler. If ever fights revolve into death match, you can bet the divey heroes will win it over.
The much harder comp to run is rush because without lucio the common divey heroes have far less mobility. They have longer periods of down time and are able to get collapsed upon for failing to stay as a group.
The slower clumped spam comps are the least risky because everyone tends to stay together and cant’ often run off solo some place to get picked off. Its generally the least difficult to play well. Click and shoot.
For me Winston stops being hard nor requires above average IQ now that he doesnt even fear Bastion or Reaper.
Usually agree with you, but I’ma have to say no to this. I don’t think taking 3-4 people and jumping 1 person is “skillful” more than just overwhelming. There’s a reason why dive is getting nerfed, and it’s on full display in this current season.
Hypermobility should’ve been smacked hard when OW2 launched in all fairness.
I dont think any decent Tracer would use up her tripple blinks before engaging anyone, unless she goes for a pulse bomb
Dive isn’t even the meta though?
Sigma is still the #1 tank, the 2 best supports are bap illari and then ashe cass are two of the top 3 dps.
If anything people are going dive to try and counter the poke meta that’s currently been in place for like 5 seasons.
But, the strategy is still there to attempt. To a lesser extent you can do 2 blinks to get in for a round of fire, then bail out. Its not even just Tracer. You can see this result in hammond or doomfist who have multiple options.
Ball hooks into fight, armors up, then speed away. Possibly even get his grapple back before speeding away again. Doomfist has multiple ways of mobility from cooldown reductions on ultimate, block resetting and stalling his cooldowns, on top of 2 options. Sombra has the stealth → translocate out option.
Even Pharah has been given a secondary mobility tool with air dash to concussion blast around for a dive bomb attempt, then possibly get away before being chased with high ground access.
All of this is while you can still put pressure with some longer range fire. Sombra is 15m before fall off. Pharah has none. Genji has none. Ball is 15m before fall off. Winston cna poke with 40m range move I think. Dive heroes don’t have to commit everything they have. They can choose to wait things out and reposition.
Doesnt exactly work for me, if i were to engage without at least 2 blinks i either fed or did a whole lot of nothing. My enemies don’t usually miss.
I would like to take a moment to remind people that the reason we have Brig is because dive became too dominant and supports got tired of not being able to fight back. Dive should be viable, but it needs proper counters in place. I’m not sure the proper counters are really around these days. Back in the day you could at least have a dps go Reaper to chase Winston away; not really after the latest armor changes.
Sane dive enjoyers should want it to be balance since the worst thing that can happen to you is the resurrection of launch Brig, or knowing these Devs: something even more oppressive.
