Is DF Really Talon’s “Boss”?

Is DF the mastermind behind everything that Talon decides to do, period? I dunno, I have a hard time believing it. Not saying DF is dumb or not capable at all, it is just… I don’t know.

It would make sense to me that Talon sees DF as a “leader” of sorts, but I don’t think his opinion is Influencing all decisions.

Of course, every сharacter has their own reasons why they ended up in Talon, and when the time comes to choose in own favor or in favor of the organization, I think that the majority of known characters will betray Talon

Talon has a “council” of leaders who all aspire to a similar goal but differ on the means to which they achieve it, and have different motivations for individual actions. Doomfist is the head of the council, who holds the view that humanity must evolve through conflict, and directs talon to create that conflict. By aligning with Talon, operatives sign on with that “mission statement”. But some people have different motivations for joining. Baptiste joined to get a leg up after the Omnic Crisis as a sort of career. Sombra joined to access Talon’s resources and find out “who really runs the world”. Moira joined Talon to use their resources to study genetics and bioengineering without restraint.

From the info we have, Talon follows a progressive hierarchy according to the departments:

  • At the top you could put Doomfist, but it is also true that he more than “command” acts as a spiritual guide in the organization. He defines and emphasizes the principles of Talon in his “great ideal”, but this does not avoid getting his hands dirty as a killer.
  • Then I would put Maximillien, Sanjay Korpal, Vialli and Antonio on the same level. These 4 have 4 different administrative powers that make Talon a great organization: Money, corporate actions, smuggling and corruption.
  • Subsequently I would place Moira, Reaper, Sombra and Widowmaker as executive elements of the organization. Reaper and Moira in particular participate in the meetings as “scientist” and “former OW agent” while Sombra and Widowmaker are among the specialists.
  • finally I would put the troops (including Mauga, but maybe also Widowmaker) and those who are exploited unconsciously (like Sigma). “in theory” also Symmetra is involved with Talon’s great plan working for the Vishkar, but she is already a more distant and discordant hierarchy.

It’s worth mentioning that these two are deceased.

Talon’s council is made up of several members: Doomfist, Moira, Reaper, Maximilien, Sanjay Korpal, and 4 other unidentified individuals seen at the table in Masquerade (there may be others). They are all equals, but Doomfist seems to have decided on the direction they are taking and so far nobody has any objections.

Sombra, Widowmaker and Sigma (and Baptiste, before he defected) are not on the council - they are just troops/weapons that Talon uses against their enemies. Of course, Sombra uses Talon just as much as they use her, and Widowmaker and Sigma don’t really have a choice in the matter.

I think, just a little personal theory, that Talon moved to a council after Storm Rising but wasn’t always ran by one.

We see in Retribution when Antonio is killed, during the dialogue Reyes comments about who will replace him and notes Viali or Maximilien. Later in Storm Rising we have Tracer and Sojourns commentary about how “Maximilien has always ran a tight ship” and how Doomfist’s emergence is shaking up Talon hierarchy.

In some way this almost implies that Talon might have enacted a council later but wasn’t always council-ran. It’s a more beneficial move to create a council of leaders the same way any major company has an executive board of officers when you have a warmonger trying to control it all, so I’m wondering about that little tidbit.

Doomfist does seem to be some sort of head, but if we look at this the same way businesses are set up, the CEO/President of the company can be fired if the board agrees to remove them. We see it all the time between forced step-downs to straight up replacing them, so maybe in this scenario Doomist is more the “President” but that doesn’t mean he has absolute power. Then again, there’s no doubt Doomfist is powerful so to replace him, Talon would have to have someone even stronger who could forcibly remove him (I highly doubt Doomfist would simply pack his office up and leave if he was voted out).

Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of guaranteed lore to go on; new heroes change existing lore, events overwrite what we had, it’s sort of a mess without any solid “this or this” to work with.

Maximilien sold to Overwatch the information about Doomfist after Storm Rising. Vilani told Doomfist he didn’t want his come back and then Vilani died by his hands. I think Talon council (these two were its players) got rid of Doomfist.

Not sure why you’d say that when he’s the only one that expresses any real vision for Talon. The other characters just do their own things for their own reasons. He’s probably the only thing keeping the organization afloat.

Well that’s why its a council, not a hierarchy. Doomfists voice is one of many, but thats why he rallied up Reaper, sombra, widow under an alliance with Moira (based off widow’s voicelines) to have a lil coup of talon to have a bigger voice.

Thats my interpretation of the events of masquerade, at least

Is it even specifically stated that doomfist is the leader of the talon council? i always assumed he was just the most influencial currently with all known members of the council following him but others not.

Even if he is the official head of Talon, he can be replaced or removed. Sure he wouldn’t go quietly, but it could be done. My recommendation would be poison, snipers far enough out that the sound will get there after the bullet, or if you have to go noisy, overt, and make wild wave within Talon, airstrikes and artillery on an open field with no cover.

He certainly seems to be trying to get Talon all moving in a direction of his choosing, but clearly not everyone was on board, seeing as a few guys didn’t make it to the meeting, or the next one, or the next…

While I’m not sure the rest of the council is eager for this, I’m guessing that their plans can keep running in spite of all the impending chaos, or they’re choosing to be more careful than their “missing” associates, at least for now, and will follow Akande’s lead until a better alternative presents itself.
