Is Competitive broken?

Idk. I’ve been plat/gold for a while. I used to main Mercy but we all know what happened to her. I took a long break because of the changes, come back, get pretty good at Lucio, and Moira (I guess), and start playing comp.

I have literally lost every single game I played, except a few I played with a friend.

I have dropped from gold to BRONZE, in like a few days. I don’t understand??? I am healing pretty well, my positioning is okay, it’s not like I’m constantly dying. Especially not on Moira.

Is it just me or can supports literally not carry a game by themselves

Like it can’t be entirely ME.

Edit: also, I forgot. The game gathers our data for characters right??? Why am I Sometimes in games with like two other support mains?? Or like four dps mains??? Isn’t there something Blizzard can do to fix this?

Loss streaks do happen, I lost 9 or 10 games in a row last night, dropping from 3800 to around 3600, it’s feels bad but don’t worry they aren’t the norm. If you do enough in your games you’ll start winning again, the games should be easier in general because you have fallen quite a bit.

So I looked up your overbuff stats and indeed you barely die, but what I could quickly see is that you don’t make a very big impact offensively with your heroes. Your damage for all your heroes is in the bottom 2% for Moira and Ana, while in the bottom 17% for Lucio.

To carry as Support, especially at lower ranks, you need to both stay alive AND make some big time plays. The more damage you can deal the better I’d say, as long as you aren’t using your pistol much as Mercy or neglecting healing your team.

Some supports can literally carry games by themselves, but not every support can and it varies depending on your rank. For example, even the best Mercy player, playing in a low rank game, can sometimes not carry if her team is not getting any kills. Now that same Mercy player in a high rank game might be able to survive against some top 500 DPS and carry by not dying.

The best way to carry at Bronze to Plat on Support is to eliminate the enemy instead of relying on your team to do it for you. The best Supports for doing this are Moira, Brig, and Zenyatta. I’d recommend staying away from Zen unless your aim with his projectiles is pretty good, because a Zen with poor aim often doesn’t get a lot of value.

Yes the game gathers data, but Blizzard mostly keeps that data to themselves.

The matchmaking system tries to make balanced games but it’s not perfect by any means and doesn’t prioritize play time in a season, so yes sometimes you’ll get 3 Zen mains on a team. It’s very difficult to balance a system like this because, for example, I might play Zen 10 matches in a row then on the 11th match I want to play Reaper. How does the matchmaker know that? It doesn’t. Sure there could be many improvements in the future, but for now your best bet is to play with 1-2 friends that are helping you win or using the LFG (looking for group) feature to help find some players to help you win.

This only somewhat has to do with your post, but I am curious if high elo Mercy onetricks have fallen since her nerf. If they nerfed D’va into the ground, I would fall because I play her so much.

I REALLY appreciate your comment. It is so helpful. I have mostly been playing Mercy in comp, so I guess I will switch to Moira and try to do a lot more damaging. Just to make sure we get those elims. I definitely know I don’t do a lot of damage offensively, because I mostly focus on staying alive, and healing my team.

I will try to damage more!

The thing is you can heal just as much as you are now but double your damage and elims at the same time with Moira. Also recognize which tanks your playing with. Moira is not great for dive tanks Mercy is still better here. I also agree with the assessment of the other poster.

Try recording some gameplay and posting it for review.

You are either lying or playing an extremely unhealthy amount. I’d worry about blood clots in your legs, embolism and stroke.

In my experience at Master, there are significantly less Mercy 1 trick players. Most Mercy players I see are queued up with a DPS main, while solo queue Support players (like myself) with flex to Mercy on certain maps on defense, or to pair with a Pharah.

Otherwise, the main healer is usually Ana at Master+.

I’m definitely not lying, but I do play a lot. I’m kind of afraid of leaving my apartment.

If it was you OP then you would be the only one fighting the opposing team ,but its probably teams that you been on.

I played a lot of Mercy last season and have switched over to Lucio. He’s a better fit for me - I like how fun he is. I have been able to climb more or less steadily on Lucio, but I agree with the above you need to be able to put out some damage.

No one, not even dps or tanks, can carry a game by themselves. It’s the nature of the beast. Overwatch is designed as a team based game. Whichever team of randoms works the best together wins.
Which is a problem in itself. You winning is entirely left up to luck alone. You might get a team that is willing to work together for the win. Or you might get a team that is a deranking 5 stack. I’ve won games based solely on the fact the enemy is a 6 stack of derankers and I was lucky enough to be the solo queue that was put with a 5 stack against them.
You don’t win based on skill or sick plays you do, you win based on if you got lucky enough to. The only way to remove some of the RNG of winning or losing is to try getting a 4 stack together. Just enough people you know are competent to make a difference but not so much you’ll get placed in situations you might not be ready for.
