Is Cheating becoming too big of a problem in Overwatch?

What say you? I have genuinely seen some insane things the last few days of late. I have played 4 games today and out of those 4 I had two games with confirmed cheaters. In the last game there was an entire 5 stack of cheaters. How are we supposed to enjoy or practice the game we enjoy if every time we load in we have to put up with this and the egos of those cheaters?

Can we seriously get better tools or have Blizzard do something even Riot does by telling us when they banned someone we reported so we know we are doing a good job reporting and encourage people to report more often? As it seems now it feels like a non-stop uphill battle without any end in sight. My friends just don’t even want to play the game anymore.

I do agree they need to come in and start actually solving the problem. But since this is a free access game, they aren’t going to get it under control. I mean even the paid-for games have this problem. But it comes down to how much they are willing to charge for the game, in order to convince normal players not to cheat or have to shell out a substantial amount of cash in order to play again.

… Which only solves this problem to a degree
A reasonable method we have to assume is that if a game is 30-60 dollars that more players are less likely to cheat, because if they are caught. They are out that money each time they are.

however, it also depends upon the company. If they are not willing to randomly deploy active mods that spectate you and watch your player inputs, they aren’t going to curtail the cheater.

Then it finally comes down to the actual ban. If they ban that account and it cost more than just money to get back into the game, by other means such as harsh penalties which could be something as drastic as banning that player’s Operating System ID from using the game or going even as far as banning the GPU’s firmware itself from playing. The options are endless. But all can be circumvented.

As people automate more of their gameplay and make the playing fields unfair for people. it is a constant battle to be had and in the end its theft from the game company AND other players that play the game.

All very valid points. I understand all this and I imagine some pretty draconian measures would need to be taken to prevent hacking on the scale they are probably dealing with right now but it really does seem like it’s not even on their radar.

The bans in waves method is fine to help mitigate the war against hacking but why do we as players feel so helpless? We have no confirmation that we are correctly identifying and making the game a better place to be. I think it would go a long way to just send players a “Good job we banned an account because you reported them” every time they ban a player. It would go a long way to encourage players to see that their cries for help are not falling on deaf ears.

As a “free game” I realize that it is much harder now because we don’t have the price barrier to entry but some accounts are actually paying money for battle passes and they still haven’t been caught. That said there are surely barriers to entry that can be erected to resolve the issue… I don’t know if I want full picture id validation but something can surely be done that would be a creative solution without being full police state.

They can mitigate it it by not putting brand new accounts with long established dedicated players.

Could you provide the replay codes?

Im having more and more corrupted replays in games where someone is suspicious to me but i’ve seen more botting too last week. Back to back two bots in Comp. One on our team and in the next match one at the enemy.

Not to mention when someone literally hacked a match.

I’m not OP, but I encountered someone basically ragehacking on Tracer in gold yesterday. Code is 1909PP. Game lasted 3 minutes on push. My team realized right away what was happening, and collectively pretty much gave up.
I’d love to see the 5 stack of cheaters replay though LOL.

Unfortunately I think most cheaters are much more debatable to identify, with a lot of benefit of the doubt given.

I have a brand new account, I am already with people with 1000+ hours. I have 30 games played.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s all that big a deal. For one, it’s overwatch, so it’s hard to be all that serious in the first place. Plus, cheating only gets you so far, and while that can make some matches “unfun,” it’s, y’know, overwatch. Fun stopped being a priority in 2017.

Thanks, I’ll take a look in a bit.

What do you mean? As long as there’s a competitive mode it is a big deal. Cheating ruins games and creates unfair advantages.
You may not care, but anyone who intends to win in the game does.

Anyway, when they made the game FTP they should have seen this coming. Too bad the anticheat seems to have been downgraded in OW 2 and no one gets banned anymore.

Imo it’s similar to what was in OW1. Pretty rare but it sucks when you face one and you know you just lost the game without compensation

yep kind of crazy. and she has golden guns too lol
maybe the kind of guy that cheats only once in a while so no ban lol.

cheaters like this tracer do it to troll. The rest are all closet ones with a superiority complex.

Becoming? No it isn’t becoming a problem. It has been a problem since shortly after the game was released years ago. It will never stop being a problem.

Valorant uses Vanguard which automatcially starts up every time you turn on your computer. Maybe something like it would help with OW2 too?

I personally don’t experience cheaters in Valorant which probably says something about how much more effective it is compared to other games anti cheats, however it was some time ago I last played so I don’t know how often you find cheaters in game now.

I don’t experience cheaters my self in OW2 other than in season 1 with those 360 degrees spinning bots lol but I see a lot of videos on YouTube of hackers and replay codes here on the forums sometimes.

A much more common problem in OW2 in my experience are throw accounts. There’s brand new accounts in ranked that intentionally feeds in some of my games.

I think the issue is many people assume better players than themselves must be cheating. Pretty much all my buddies have been accused of it multiple times over the years. Even one of them who is plat at best, and he himself says his aim is garbage and has been accused.

Cheats obviously are in the game, but to a much lower degree than many people seem to think.

Clip for proof?

From my experience 95% of so called cheaters on the forums are just better players and the OP is low ranked so they think it’s hacks.

Yes I agree with you at least when it comes to OW1. In my experience in OW2 it’s very rarely that someone calls others cheaters. I have though seen multiple videos on YouTube and replay codes here on this forum on people who cheat where they have lock on aim on the enemies head. Since the game is F2P now it doesn’t shock me if cheaters has increased a little bit. Maybe it’s worse on US servers when it comes to cheats because I don’t experience cheats anymore in EU but maybe I’m wrong and just haven’t noticed it.
