Disclaimer: I’m not talking about whether Brigitte is a Main Healer or an Off Healer. How much healing Brigitte does doesn’t matter in this context. I’m talking about how OWL classifies their supports.
For those of you unaware of how OWL Support roles are typically grouped, I’ll explain now. Each team has Main Support and Flex Support players with each player having different hero pools.
Flex Support (examples of Flex Support players: Viol2t, Ryujehong, Jjonak, Dogman) Flex Support players typically play Ana, Zenyatta, and Moira
Main Support (examples of Main Support players: Moth, Tobi, Anamo, Masaa) Main Support players typically play Lucio, Mercy, and Baptiste
With Brigitte literally being unplayable right now in OWL, I was wondering whether she’s a Main Support or Flex Support. The low mechanical cost of Brigitte suggests that she would be a Main Support, but then again Moira is still a Flex Support despite her low mechanical cost. If Brigitte suddenly became meta again, which OWL player would play her, the Main Support player or Flex Support player?
TL;DR: Is Brigitte A Main Support or a Flex Support? (In OWL Context)
Main Support I think. I don’t think a lot of these talented Flex Support players would be too keen on playing Brigitte, LOL. (But I guess they aren’t too keen on playing Moira either HAHA) Plus if Brigitte was nudged slightly back into the meta I think it would make for the better healer combos.
Brigitte-Ana
Brigitte-Moira
plus even Brigitte-Zenyatta would be playable in a defensive or disciplined Dive as sort of a Lucio/Zenyatta replacement
Moira is only viable in situations where your team is stacked together. In these types of compositions Lucio is literally the bread and butter of your team comp.
Being able to speed around 5-6 players constantly is absolutely vital to team comps like these.
OWL classifies supports as Main or Flex instead of off healer. But because of the meta we’ve only seen Brig once in the playoffs iirc and she was played by Vancouver. I think Twilight played her and he’s the flex support.
I couldn’t tell you until I see more of her lol. But I feel like if there’s comps that feature her in the future of owl she’ll be played by the flex support since most main support players play Lucio and he’s probably gonna be needed to make her viable.
Maybe Brigitte is interchangeable. Brigitte-Ana could be just as strong of a comp as Brigitte-Lucio if not slightly stronger. Obviously Brigitte would be played by a Main Support player in that healer combo. Though, maybe we’re just forced to wait until she’s more playable to see which owl players pick her up.
I think she was plainly intended as both a main support and a main healer, but Blizzard kinda whiffed the mark on that, so she’s a flex support and weird hybrid healer that leans sorta main healer but not really
Based on those lists, I’d probably put her in the “main support” bucket, since I’ve mostly had success with her next to Moira. In the current meta, Brigitte makes for a less speedy composition than Lucio, but she can heal/armor the flankers while they’re flanking (instead of making them always come home right away) and mostly keep the enemy Doomfist at bay. I’m actually a little surprised this hasn’t caught on more, considering speed boost is not that important on an Orisa/Sigma tank line, and Reaper and Doomfist often have to venture out of Lucio’s range.
That said, which player plays each character in pro teams often changes depending on meta. Assuming there’s a somewhat different meta in the future, I could see her in the “flex” slot next to Lucio for a hyper-aggro deathball comp, something like:
[Reaper/Doomfist/Mei] [Rein/Winston/Zarya] [Brigitte/Lucio]
The general idea being to get in fast, CC the living crap out of everything, and plow through them with a team that really doesn’t care about barriers or DM. It’s basically GOATS with more mobility, more CC, more burst damage, and similar healing, but less upfront durability (2 tanks and 4 self-healers instead of 4 tanks and 3 self-healers).
Because this isn’t Season 1 and speed boost doesn’t make Lucio a must pick. Deathball comps without Lucio are valid, especially defensive ones. Ana-Baptiste was already played quite a bit in OWL and that comp doesn’t have a Lucio.
