Is Archives coming back this year?

Looking at the recent Season 4 roadmap, there is not a single mention of the Archives event, nor could I find any official mention of Archives coming back this year anywhere else. Since Season 4 starts around when Archives would normally start, I fear that the Archives event might be removed in order to promote their PvE mode (which still hasn’t come out, by the way).

Was there any mention of it that I didn’t see? Or do we geniunely just not know? I’ve been trying to finish my achievements for Overwatch and the Archive ones are some of the last that I need.

It’s not coming back. Starwatch will be the event that showcases upcoming PvE elements and as far as we know, Archives is probably going to be integrated into the PvE and story mode that’s coming out later this year.

We have no info about whether or not the Archives missions will be coming back, but they’re not part of season 4.

It should. I need Retribution.

We should expect each Archives mission to be $20 and for our access to be incredibly limited.

If they make the PvE NOT F2P, on top of the $20 skins, Blizzard is dead to me.

IIRC they already confirmed it would be on a seasonal release schedule and you would need to purchase the battle pass to interact with it.

They confirmed the first part, not the second.

It’s pretty easy to infer that it’s tied to the premium battle pass, as that’s what other games with BPs do afaik.

And why would Blizzard and Microsoft intend to make OW2 part of Game Pass if the PvE wasn’t going to be paid? What else would they give out, the BP? It’s not a paid game. I don’t see them being that charitable.

We intend to make Activision Blizzard’s much-loved library of games – including Overwatch, Diablo and Call of Duty – available in Game Pass

You’re absolutely free to speculate, but it hasn’t been confirmed.

Yeah, 'cause Blizzard would have to put out PvE news for that to happen…

Uh huh. Fortunately we are supposed to be getting PVE news later this month, so hopefully we get some better info then.

I’ll believe it when I see it. OW2 was supposed to release as a PvE expansion, and we all see how that went.

That hasn’t been the officially stated plan since over a year ago, but you know.

True. But it would be silly to argue that it didn’t spend a majority of its development as a PvE expansion, before being upgraded to a live-service PvP overhaul with a seasonal battle pass.

Actually OW2 being both a PVP and PVE experience has been the case since it was announced in 2019. Don’t blame people for not knowing that though considering how terrible the communication was.

There was communication?

Speaking as someone who reinstalled Overwatch specifically for the archives event which always ran in April (the state of the game around Jan-Feb finally made me call it quits. I had played it pretty religiously since Beta otherwise), I cannot express how disappointing and frustrating it is that they’re not letting us play the best event mode–which arguably would only serve to amp people up for PvE later (in conjunction with whatever Starwatch is when it comes out). But less popular event games like yeti hunt was brought back? For real?
