Is an "Overwatch 2.0" on the horizon?

Two years after Heroes of the Storm launched, the game was starting to go downhill… but it made a huge comeback with Heroes of the Storm 2.0, a huge overhaul of the entire game in every aspect. It was a massive success, and revived the game!

We’re at the two year mark for Overwatch. The latest summer games has been a flop, and tensions over other parts of the game have only ever continued to rise.

Could a 2.0 version rescue Overwatch, like it did with HotS?

Edit: to clear up some confusion, a “2.0 version” is not a sequel. It’s a huge expansion to the original game that massively overhauls existing systems, adding a metric ton of new features and modes.

“If Overwatch is so good, then why isn’t there an Overwatch 2?”

If they make a second one with the sorry excuse of a state the first one is in?

There will be riot.

One of the only things i could see happening in the way of an “Overwatch 2” Would be a Story Heavy Game… Either single player, or multiplayer, with “Archived” parts of a story to play through.

But, i’m an optimistic dreamer… and that’s wishful thinking…

Perhaps the Archives event could just be replaced with this “New” Version of the game, having it’s own menu, and unlockable modes?

I forget who… (Cos Fox is stupid) But someone suggested something similar once, for Hero modes, kinda like Uprising and retribution, that would reward the player with cosmetics upon completion.

But, it’s all up in the air as of right now…

Who knows… we all want new modes, and more lore…

hopefully…

A 2.0 version would be a massive update to the game we have now, not a separate game.

It wouldn’t be a second one, it would be a relaunching of the first, but I find it incredibly unlikely. Overwatch has never and will never be in the low-played, badly-regarded state HotS was in

That’s basically what i’m getting at.

It would need to be an “Expansion” Upon what we already have.

For that Overwatch would have to be in a stable state which is not

To butcher a quote from Mark Twain: The reports of Overwatch’s downfall are greatly exaggerated.

We don’t need any of that. You guys are being so overly dramatic about the game right now.

A new game? Dout it.

A massive update with a co-op campaign and other massive additions? Possibly.

They will squeeze this game for a few years more. An expansion will come out before OW2 is even in the works. Less work and about the same profit.

Give it another 2-3 years. When this game has a completed lore and story progression, only then could we see an expanded/updated 2.0 for Overwatch.

I don’t think there will ever be a “complete” lore in the sense of a finale to it. Since its a character based game I view it will be more like a fighting game story line.

Well what I mean is, you have the characters who were all involved in the past, all relevant to those events, from Omnic crisis --> Fall of Overwatch --> Winston’s call to action. At this point, the game and its lore still falls between these 3 events. So in my mind, Overwatch 2.0 is everything that happens after Winston begins efforts to revive Overwatch or similar goal-intended Organization.

a massive update would be nice but if they ever make overwatch 2, I won’t buy it that’s for sure

I don’t trust the Overwatch team to come out with anything new that will make the game interesting for me to play again. They lied and manipulated enough already. They are not getting any more of my money, and I am not looking forward to any new Blizzard games.

Good thing there are other games out there, like Monster Hunter World that was released for PC today…

As much as I’d love to believe that general dev silence and lack of new event mode for Summer Games is because the team is dedicated to a top-secret 2.0-worthy overhaul, I’m afraid that it would be too optimistic and I’d be disappointed in the long run.

Ow2 is not necessary and they said it’s not gonna happen for a game like ow, i can see them shutting this forum though.
