Is a second account the only real option to get out of bronze?

This is not true at all. The most SR ~30+ I have gained per win was always on a support hero.

Made an alt. Had it be 1600 twice this season, climbed to 2100 both times using Mercy only.
Its not that hard.

Maybe they fixed it since I mained Mercy. Back early game even the pros were complaining that they’d play the same 10 placement games together and their supports would be several hundred Sr below the dps…

And, to be fair, in season 8 I played utter garbage with Mercy one game and got 30 Sr. So maybe better since those days.

$39.99 US Dollars $$$

I have a second account. I Leveled to 25 and played all 10 placements. I went 3-7 (I refuse to throw, so I played my best on an off hero). I placed mid gold 2376 or something like that.

I bought overwatch for my son for xmas and he wasn’t interested but I got hooked lol
I tried comp at level 25 because “the game said to” but i wasn’t ready and went 1-9 in placements. I kept playing for fun and on my best days would venture into comp. Won a few lost a few still in bronze.
Overall I didn’t start to feel competent until about level 60.
I had leveled up to 80 or so when he finally became interested. We were sharing the account for a while but I’ve turned it over to him completely and started a new account last night.
Playing on my work desktop through hella lagging, 4g ram, stock dell videocard, and my job’s gnarly firewall I managed to hit level ten in a couple of hours. (frustrating but fun)
I’m not doing this to level up but I am starting from a more experienced position (with none of the baggage of my “formative” period) so I will be a perfect controlled experiment.
I will let you know how it goes…
PS Please don’t call this smurfing or boosting, I am ending season 10 in low bronze and my son has a more developed skill set than I do as a gamer in general. :grimacing::joystick:

Agreed with the person who mentioned D.va. I placed in Silver quite a while ago and climbed out super quickly playing her (granted, she got hit with several nerfs since then, but she still does a lot of damage). From my past experience in Silver/low Gold it’s very easy to punish people who are out of position ( I’m guessing there’s a lot of them in Bronze) with D.va and the enemy team usually doesn’t do anything when you dive their healers. You have to know which fights you can/ can’t pick though (ex: don’t 1 v 1 a mei, zarya, brig, etc…) and not forget to peel for your teammates when they get harrassed.

I dunno what would help you get out of bronze, but I got out of bronze in a season or two. And another season or two later, I got into gold. So it’s definitely doable without a second account, even with all the bad matches. If you’re losing, you should walk away or play a different game type for a bit.

It’s helpful to group up when you encounter randoms who you had a good match with, especially if you tank or support

You shouldn’t group with good DPS players because their MMR is high and when you group with high MMR players you play against smurfs.

That’s now how this works. That’s not how any of this works.

Hey there,

i feel you dude. It seems hard to climb and sometimes its just frustrating. But work on your game, record your games, watch the vods , minimize your mistakes.

As youre getting better you will climb.

I went from Silver to Platinum in Season 7. You don’t need a new account.

If you really want to get out of bronze don’t buy a 2nd account. If you get to gold a 2nd account is worth it not before.

Silver and bronze is all about being self sufficient and to be able to walk through choke points.

Avoid heroes like Mercy rien or Orissa, as you are putting your fate in your teams hands when you play them.

If your in bronze it’s bc you belong there and I’m not trying to be mean. When I play in bronze I destroy people because I don’t belong there. But if you want to find out what the problem is faster than record your gameplay and see what you don’t do that pros do.

If you don’t have an above 50% win rate on your main, then no getting a second account wont solve anything. You’ll just drop down below 50% at some point again and go back to bronze.

It really astounds me how people think bronze is so impossible to climb out of. If you are just around 2300 you can easily climb out of bronze. Because bronze people are real bots, the easy kind, maybe even worse than easy bots. No offence, but that’s just how it is, I know because I experienced it when I was leveling my alt, got all bronzes in my first 10 or so games and I just carried by playing pistol mercy, and I was high plat at that time. It’s that ridiculous.

It may sound mean and hard to believe (because “whaa I am losing cause of throwers/smurfs/boosters etc etc. not because I am actually bad!!!”), but it’s the truth.

It is, as you describe an arena with objectives, but there are still counters to heroes. So its essentially a rock paper scissors arena with objective game.

Playing on another account on lower tiers ive encountered players who insist team comp doesnt matter (which it does). If you have equally skilled players on each team, then the only thing that matters is the comp(who has counters and who is getting countered).

Learn counters, when to switch, switch often(as needed). In higher tiered games (gm/top 500) players immediately call out who the enemy switched to as well as make immediate changes as well (not wait aound to see if the enemy counter works, but change immediately)

Playing a DPS will probably get you out of Bronze/Silver if you’re good at it, because DPS have more carry potential in unorganized Free-for-all style of play that is… well, the entirety of OW competitive but doubly so at low ranks.

That said, once you climb out to gold i’d really seriously consider learning important skills to progress from there. I can’t give you a play by play but you will need to learn positioning, when to follow up on kills/rush the enemy, when to back off, when its better to die and regroup than delay and be on different respawn times, so on, so forth.

Being a DPS if you’re GOOD will help you climb, but once you get up there you want to learn more valuable skills if possible. They won’t come into play a whole lot at Gold~Plat, but mechanical skill will only get you so far and unless you’re a god mechanically your other skills need to improve.

If you’re really not supposed to be in bronze you can probably carry your way out with Zenyatta honestly.

I made a second account for practicing Zenyatta and the people in bronze, silver, and even gold are very bad at strafing so it’s very easy to get kills and make an impact with Zenyatta IF you’re not really supposed to be in bronze. AKA if your aim is good enough.

I’m a Mercy main through and through and I was able to aim well enough with Zenyatta to climb from silver to platinum in one season on a fresh account.

I’m serious, people in bronze walk straight forward and backward whilst shooting a lot of the times. Zenyatta can delete them soooo fast.

I have found that people in mid gold and below just cannot deal with a semi competent doomfist. If you’re not running a dps atm then I would consider picking him up for a while. It will just take you a while to get used to him since he is so hard to play.
