Irans abusive ISPs

I’m from Iran and my ISP (Pisgamane toseye ertebat (پیشگامان توسعه ارتباط)) cuts my internet as soon as i start a competitive game it has been 2 days (non stop, and yes it’s been a routine course of action for them*) and I’m banned for 20 hrs now**. it’s NOT happening in the skirmish BEFORE the actual beginning of the match. it is not happening specifically and/or only to me and it is not limited to my ISP.
this has become so frustrating that i just wanted to put it out there and I’m not looking forward to see an answer. sorry for taking your time.

*how do i know this? because the modem resets automatically and yes i already made a through research on technical issues

P.S: with VPN this almost does not happen (although all the vpns and proxys are blocked by the government order) . the same thing happens in quick play but fairly random.

** i went to check if the problem still persists and got banned without a time stamp on it. so… I’m not sure if i can play competitive mod ever again.

i probably have found a solution for this: when i run a popular torrent at upload:3kbps and download:3kbps in the background with NO encrypted outgoing data. this will basically mask my data and render all that crap useless for them.

This seems like something that should be over in tech support forum. Even if you have tried some things id look over there for overwatch specific answers. Maybe other players have same issue and have a way around it.

It might not even be your isp. I cant see a reason they would limit comp play but not regular play. It would be all or nothing right?

Yep some scumbag working for ISPs can see your traffic and remotely reboot your modem, and claim it to be unexpected maintenance so they don’t get in trouble.

Could it be a faulty modem or router? Most modems that are provided by the isp are bad and its always best to buy your own modem anyays.

If you have other devices on your network one of them could be causing interference with each other. Multiple consoles can do it quite often to each other if they are not properly setup with your router (for example).

What router do you have anyways and what r u playing on (xbox/ps4/pc).

Does it occur when you play a QuickPlay match or Arcade modes?

How do you suspect they know you’re in a comp match? Internet traffic is nearly 100% encrypted these days, they’d have no real way to filter that out. Maybe try testing that theory with a VPN?

Not suprised, it’s Iran. Don’t be offended. Your government is probably shutting down your ISP. Do they have a limit on internet use over there? Is there a monthly or weekly use?

yes but fairly random

[wearing tin-foil hat]If I had to guess, it’s because there’s a lot of swearing and toxicity in comp. Is it expected that Iranian ISPs actively convert and monitor the Overwatch network traffic? [/wearing tin-foil hat]

If you have other devices connecte don network (if possible) connext your device straight to modem (skip router) just to see if it still happens

You might try searching to see if others have found any resolution to this problem. You aren’t the only one having it happen. I’ve seen a few posts. Here’s one. And I can’t post links so here it is with a space in it sorry.

There is no reason to encrypt standard gameplay or handshake packets, in fact it’s highly likely they’re completely unencrypted. It’s also very likely different IPs or ports are used for competitive mode.

u c nobody dares or gives a damn a bout it to write about it in forums
