Can anyone explain to me why it happens that when my internet has a lagg for one second, like where it actually cuts out completly, for 1 or 2 seconds,
in game it is like a complete stop for a second, but after that it is completly fine again, yet i still get kicked from the server after a few more seconds (where it is running smoothly again)
I really have a decent internet, but those really short black outs, are what have ruined some comp games already. And they happen rarely and without any indication before.
It just kinda sucks, especially because OW is still running fine a few seconds after the lagg before it cuts out…
Because unlike other games who have a grace period between disconnects and reconnects, Overwatch Requires a connection through-out the entire match.
Why? Maybe the game require a lot of data to be transmitted. And any missing info will cause a lot of problems.
It’s just a guess.
still really annoying to happen…
i have lost quite a few games because of that.
I mean it’s not THAT many, but it still is annoying when it happens. especially when it happens at the beginning of the match, making me loose 50SR.
LIke it doesn’t happen frequently enough to not play comp (as it is the only mode that I enjoy playing solo). but still…
happens with instability in your connection. Potentially a busy frequency if you are playing wireless. If you are, try getting a wired connection done.
Even with a good Internet connection overall, problems can still occur on the specific connection route between you and the Overwatch game server. A WinMTR test can help track these problems:
WinMTR instructions:
- Download WinMTR from http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ (Console players need a Windows Desktop Computer connected to the same network as their console to do this.)
- Unzip the WinMTR.zip file to the Desktop.
- Open the WinMTR folder and select the 32 or 64 bit version. Choose whichever one corresponds to your version of Windows.
- Run the WinMTR.exe
- Type the IP address you want to trace in the “Host” field. To get the correct IP you will actually need to open up the game and go Practice Vs AI or Quick Play and if you are on PC hit Ctrl+Shift+N and it will bring up the ingame network diagnostic graph, or go to Video > Options > Display Network Performance Graph if you are on any platform including Console. In the top left corner is the IP address you want to run WinMTR to.

note When looking at the IP it will show up ingame as something like 12.34.56.78:12345. You will want to leave the last 5 digits and the colon at the end off and the IP you want to use is just the 12.34.56.78
- Once you notice the connection issue while playing, play for about 6 more minutes, minimize the game and click on “Stop”.
- Click on “Copy text to clipboard”, then return to this forum thread.
- Type two sets of four squiggly lines and then paste the contents of the WinMTR test between:
