Interested in learning Weaver

Okay, tell me I’m crazy, but I’m actually considering choosing Weaver. I’m brand new, of course. Haven’t played him ever basically.

Thought about Ana, but she’s still a sniper hero. I want a playstyle radically different from Widow. I think I’m set on Weaver. He looks like he has the potential to be a lot of fun, once I get used to him, plus he sounds sassy. Definitely a plus!

My question to any LW vets out there. What were your early games like? In your opinion, what should I start to work on first with him?

That’s actually 2 questions.

Some heroes I can do a little warmup in practice range then I’m ready for primetime. But I have a feeling Weaver’s going to need more consideration.

Thanks in advance. :innocent:

Healing is easy since it locks on I say focus on not trying to pull people from harms way too much that was my early problem I was always yanking people lol. Only pull them if they are panties or have some negative effect on them or if their alone and trying to 1 v 5 until you get more comfortable maybe that’s my advice.

Also life weavers petal is really good, it can cancel sigma silt if you place the petal on the black circle in the middle so learning how to aim petal and jump from petal to get extra height it good.

He also has good damage, his damage reloads his healing so make sure to use it and you shouldn’t have to spend time on reloading

Liveweaver is really difficult to play because you gotta get good at learning where to place his pad so he can avoid getting dove on by flankers. Another thing is he’s very Mercy like: no matter what you gotta keep your teammate alive. This means that even when your getting attacked, 90% of the time you just need to get on the pad and daah away while continuing to keep line of sight with your teammates.

Bad Lifeweavers tend to not understand what their teammates are trying to do. This is very evident when the tank is ball, doom, Winston or Hazard. A good LW will get into a good position to heal their tank even if their tank dives the enemy backline. A bad LW will stay back where an Ana or Zen is and ask their teammate to come to them.

A more advanced trick with LW, is that if the enemy team has low mobility then you can flabk them and then drag your tank behind them. This is almost impossible in dive.

His weapon sucks and 98% of the time you won’t be able to kill the guy diving you, nor will you be able to finish off someone in the distance. The best use for it is like a sprinkle to reveal Sombra. I really wish they’d give him a shotgun that does like 2/3 the damage of Reaper because as it stands his gun is already useless at range

This is a great starting point

First things first, make sure you have his settings optimized before you start developing any muscle memory–

  • Legacy control scheme on (and rebind things in a way that feels natural to you)
  • “Secondary fire cancels primary fire when using manual swap” set to off
  • “Interact destroys Petal Platform” set to on
  • Set ultimate to cast on release

Get a good sense of when you should be focusing on healing, when you should be focusing on damage, and when you should be quickly swapping back and forth between the two. Immediately disregard ANYONE who tells you that Lifeweaver is a “healbot” or that his weapon isn’t worth using. Healbot Weavers are the reason why his winrate always looks so bad. They’re wasting a crucial aspect of his kit. You MUST deal damage on LW. He is not Mercy. Mercy can get away with not doing damage because of her blue beam boosting the damage of her teammates. LW has no such thing in his kit, so he must deal damage himself

Be careful with your Life Grips, but at the same time don’t be afraid to use it. Develop your ability to tell when a teammate is actually in danger. Pay attention to their survival cooldowns as much as you’re able to. Try not to defensively pull your tank unless absolutely necessary. Don’t worry about attempting aggro grips until you’ve gotten the foundations down first

Get good at dueling. This will help you protect yourself from flankers, and also increase your carry potential by improving your ability to get crucial kills

Don’t be too stingy with your petal. Unless you have a specific reason to be saving it, ie. countering an ult like Zarya’s or Orisa’s, always make sure you have one placed in a useful location. Try to place it ahead of time if you can. Petal’s cooldown begins when you place it, so by pre-placing it, you can use that existing petal, but also potentially have the ability to replace or relocate it on demand if done right. It’s almost like having two charges of the ability, though only one can be placed at a time. It allows you to be much more dynamic with it too. What location is considered “useful” varies depending on many factors including the map, which heroes you’re up against, and which heroes are being played by your teammates. If the enemy is flanking or diving, you may want to place your petal in a location where you can easily access and use it to evade them

For his perks, focus on Life Cycle and Superbloom. Cleansing Grasp is niche and of questionable value compared to Life Cycle’s constant 10 self-HPS, and Lifeweaving is NEVER worth using over Superbloom

There’s actually a workshop code for practicing LW’s various ability interactions. It’s a bit outdated, and some of the tasks are probably impossible since they nerfed Petal’s HP, but there are still a ton of usable tasks to practice in it. I’ll grab the code next time I’m in the game

I didn’t play Weaver as much as I probably should’ve tonight. I fell back on Juno and Mercy. I know he is good in the right hands. But I’m just throwing atm.

I have a plan for next time. I’ll play him for short intervals so I can gradually build my confidence. If he’s not working, I’ll switch.

You are a terrible person for willing to do this, my guy. Learning what? Healbot? Nice! Valuable player! Learn Bap/Ana instead.

No.
Grippy man is superior to all and poos on Bap/Ana

Cool!

Id focus on your timing and positioning for doing Life Grips. Its LW most difficult ability to master. A lot can go wrong. I like to use it on friendlies who are less than half health and are surrounded by enemies. Second thing is using his Petal Platform. Theres 2 main uses for it: Healing and Life Grabbing while on top of the Pedal and “Free Flower” in which any can use. I like to position rhe Flower Pedal near building corners. Seems to be the most useful area for them.

LWs healing is pretty easy. It even has auto-recharge (which I still dont like).

Lastly, his thorns. A very powerful weapon at mid to close range. Also a great weapon to use for self-defense. I recommend only using it needed for self-protection or if an enemy nearby is critical. If you use it too much, you will be a target!

Lastly, Flower Dash. Remember that it self-heals you. Its his only self-heal (beside passive healing, of course). Use the dash for self-healing and dodging attacks.

Hope this helps!

Just watch this, OK? Don’t just brush it off like you did on the thread where I first posted it (and even DESCRIBED the play I made in the OP, making it obvious that it was aggressive, and obvious that you just glazed over and ignored everything). Actually watch it. I timestamped my best play in the entire match, which was a flank and purely aggressive in nature. The whole sequence of events unfolds in less than a minute

I have a feeling I’m wasting my time responding to blind Weaver hatred, but I figured I might as well try and challenge your perception of him just this once

Even if you don’t watch it, I’m sure other people who haven’t seen it yet might at least get to see it, so at least there’s that. They’ll know the context

(PS for Adieu: DW, I’ll be responding to you again shortly. I just want to grab that Workshop code first)

Why not leaern Kiriko instead?

I’m open to trying her as well. :+1:

Try her instead. Forget about that wife beating fruit and learn the real flower OW2. She’s a head hunting cherry blossom, so similar to Widow there.

Alright, I’m a bit later than intended, but here is that Workshop code I was talking about: 7QNGQ

There are a few Petal tasks that I presume are impossible to complete in this mode now since its HP nerf (waiting out Annihilation and avoiding the speed-boosted Death Blossom), and by extension that probably makes the “Trial” mode impossible. (Edit: I’m also finding it impossible to avoid Flux with Petal for some reason. This might be a bug in the game. Again. Sigh. Presumably it doesn’t work with Tree either.) But there are TONS more tasks to practice. I would start with the most basic, classic ones: saving allies from Hog hook with Life Grip, countering Orisa ult with Petal, and countering Grav with petal. Actually, maybe the one where you eliminate Mei using Bob, too. Once you’ve gotten fully comfortable with his controls, then you can try practicing some of the fancier moves

Your early games playing him, especially with legacy controls, are going to be brutal. When I first switched to legacy, I almost gave up on it. But it’s so very worth it in the end. That’s why I suggest switching to legacy right away, because me already having muscle memory from his other control scheme made my transition to legacy much harder

IIRC, you’re playing on console, aren’t you? In that case, you might want to ask Ayanga for tips on how to handle legacy controls on a controller
