In Esperança, there is a voice over the intercom explaining the history of the “sea wall”, the massive dam that seems to extend across the Strait of Gibraltar. This intercom seems to say that the Portuguese army fought against the "forces of Anubis " during the omnic crisis.
This suggests that Anubis was the one leading at least some of the omnics during the crisis. This is logical enough, considering in the only comic he featured in, he was shown to control any nearby omnic.
But consider this:
His forces were attacking the Iberian peninsula, instead of somewhere like Egypt or a nearby country. Portugal isn’t that far away for an Egyptian army to sail to, but why would a writer go out of their way to say they did? I think that they want Anubis to be an International threat instead of a local one.
Second, why did they decide to bring him up now? As far as I know, the only known appearance of Anubis was in his debut comic. That’s about 6 years without any mention of him. The only reason to say it now would be if they have a plan for him.
What character do we know that leads an army of omnics, was teased as important for later with no payoff, and was even last seen in egypt?
Pharah’s bio paints the idea that Anubis was singlehandedly responsible for the Omnic Crisis, and this museum paints the idea that its common knowledge. This is a major retcon to the in-universe mystery we previously had.
There is still other god programs right?
Who knows, there was always 3 major conflicting views. The pre-launch lore, the lore through OW1’s life and finally OW2 lore. Clearly they are steamrolling everything over making the random tidbits we’ve accumulated over the years pointless.
I just hope they give us real variety for the campaign. I want chill story beats, inspiring story beats, thrillers and some sadness. We better not get some uwu marvel crap where I want to gorge out my eyes. The IP is too interesting to be treated like that.
Anubis is the God Program ( that what was said years ago anyway…) God program wasn’t a class of AI.
