Interaction With Cage Fight and Immo. Field

If Mauga captures the entire enemy team (or at least no one is outside of it near him) and Bap puts Immortality Field on the outside, if Mauga stays within it’s radius he literally can’t die for a time because no one can destroy the Immortality Field.

I had this happen to me in a match and I’m not sure what to think of it because there’s really no counterplay to this interaction. Normally when Mauga captures too many people, he gets shredded, but this prevents that from happening and he’s easily able to kill way more people than usual.

What do you guys think?

I think cage fight is just a fundamentally poorly designed ultimate with very little real counterplay in general.

I’m not sayings it’s OP, just poorly designed with very little skill expression imo.

One combo I liked was cage fight and Hanzo ult. Large AOE ults like that or Torbs are amazing with it. (like grav dragon but if positioned well the shield prevents the supports healing)

You can try and move him away from the lamp, everyone can focus on the cage so they can get to the to the lamp. Also some abilities pierce barriers, I guess they can be used to kill the lamp? Or you can be proactive and not get yourself stuck in that situation. I mean there are other situations that are basically irrecoverable when they happen, you just go to have position yourself so that they don’t happen and when they do happen you take the L.

I think its a pretty strong ult but I also think its extra strong now because people haven’t learned to deal with it yet. Just for fun, what heroes did you have on your team? I want to know if there was anything you could’ve done.

I find Cage FIght to be a tad bit oppressive.
I think it would work just as fine without the cage barrier or at least have us the ability to destroy it.
As it stands, if you don’t have a Sombra to EMP it there’s really nothing you can do about it.

Why would he follow you? He is invincible there.
And forcefully moving him requires a character that can forcefully move him, which is pretty much just Hook because tanks have the role passive.

Nobody is going to coordinate like this in QP.

An EXTREMELY small amount.
Requires those few characters with said abilities to be there in the first place.

Ah yes. “Just don’t get caged, ez”. Right alongside “Just don’t get killed, ez”.

What I hate the most is that it doesn’t disappear if he dies just leaving your team to be cleaned up by his or your team has a forced C9. That isn’t even going over just how insanely good his ult is, it creates space, roots the enemy team within it, is a barrier which blocks most heals from the outside, Mauga gets infinite ammo, and has a ton of combo potential. I feel like disappearing if he dies while using it would punish bad plays and give more counter play to it then their currently is.

I didn’t say “Just don’t get caged, ez” I said ”be proactive and not get yourself stuck in that situation” because your situation requires the entire team to walk around in an extremely small area. Its not that hard to not do that.

Answer the question. What heroes did you have on your team when it happened?

The play requires that Mauga:

  • Have ultimate ready
  • Is in a good position
  • Enemies are in a bad position
  • Is not stunned or killed while casting his ultimate
  • Enemies do not have a Lifeweaver on their team
  • Baptiste has Lamp ready in case Mauga needs it

In order to make this “play” you must also have to make many successful plays.

I see nothing wrong with having a positive outcome to a series of positive outcomes.

well my first thought was: don’t get caught like this

but thinking a bit more about it I think the center of his ult should be a deployable that can be destroyed, meaning, sure you’ll be stuck for like a second or two but if you destroy the center the chains break and you’re free to move in or out of the shield

it could have like 500 hp just to make it harder to destroy but even still you gotta consider that if he traps 3 people they can deal 500 dmg very quickly, so the more people you trap the easier it is for them to leave

The counter to the specific situation in the OP is either a) EMP. Destroys Mauga’s ult outright, carry on.

Or b) Mei’s Blizzard. Won’t let you kill the Mauga, obv, but stalls out the ultimate with him frozen so he can’t kill anybody.

You can destroy cage match with enough damage. Not hard to do if everyone stops shooting Mauga and shoots the cage instead.

Or every team needs Symmetra to teleport the entire team out of cage match.

The OP interaction with Cage Fight is lifegrip.

  1. Your Mauga pops Ult and traps enemies, then
  2. lifegrip him out of his own cage.
  3. Enemies can’t fight back without destroying cage first.
  4. Doesn’t require caging all enemies to be effective.

Basically Mauga’s kit in its entirety tbh.

EMP.

I was joking for the hog rework they’d give him an aoe Big Hinder

they didn’t do that, they gave it to Mauga instead

Cage fight is just AOE hinder which lasts even longer

stupid ult

I thought you could destroy it? At it’s earlier developments during blizzcon, I remember getting beam charge from the barrier as Symmetra? I don’t know if they changed it since then

I admit I’m not entirely sure myself, however I have yet to see it break.
People’s first reaction when caged is to shoot at Mauga so we can’t really blame them.
On that note, I also haven’t noticed if it seems to take damage at all because unlike Rein or Winston’s barrier it doesn’t have a cracked vfx to signify barrier health.

I’ll have to see if Emong made a mythbuster video thing about his ult and this because I’m super curious!

It’ll break. Nano whole hog is pretty good at blasting it by himself.
