Intel i7 14700k is trash

AMD for life

7900x on 4090

life is good

You have been playing other process heavy games. Gotta be
I’m still using an i5 (7600k), only started getting old this year. But nothing to complain about yet. It’s been at least 6 years.

it is likely the board manufacturers…they are pretty much just like microsoft dont properly test things

There is a microcode patch for it. Yes, it is a real problem, no you are not crazy, but yes, there is a fix.

Intel had a subtle bug, which has been plaguing that set of processors, it is a real thing, and it wasn’t the users fault.

high end 14th and 13th series intel cpus have bad stability issues

SOLVED stability issues.

You need to microcode patch them (I’ll look up how).

https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonyleather/2024/07/23/intel-confirms-fix-for-unstable-processors-but-do-these-steps-now/

If you’re a PC enthusiast you’re probably aware of the stability issues surrounding Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen processors, which have come to a head recently with the discovery of swathes of crash reports in online game servers. Intel has finally responded to these reports and will be issuing a microcode fix via motherboard BIOS updates some time in August.

The fix won’t be available till August, but for now you can update your motherboard’s BIOS to apply a stop-gap measure via another microcode update to force certain features to stay within Intel limits. This may see a small decrease in performance, but is necessary to ensure stability as no one wants to see crashes in games and other applications. According to Intel, the August microcode fix should not see any performance decreases.

Basically grab the latest bios for your MOBO, it is likely to solve the problem for you.

They will have patches out next month to solve it for good.

It isn’t the silicon, it is the microcode.

the bad pr that intel has received for their high end cpus caused them to just blame MOBOs instead of admitting there is something wrong with their product

There was one server where most of their crashes came from these said products

No they are saying there is a problem in their product. They are literally putting out patches for it.

It has taken them a long time to track it down, but it is ABSOLUTELY a processor issue, one which can be fixed in microcode.

according to intel, if your cpu has already crashed these fixes wont fix it since the degradation is irreversible

OUCH.

But they are not blaming the MOBO manufacturers.

I’d hold on to it if the patch doesn’t fix it, and ask for a recall, Intel will recall it, they remember what an absolute cluster the pentium bug turned into.

**What will Intel do for 13th Gen buyers after supply of 13th Gen parts runs out? Final shipments were set to end last month.

Intel is committed to making sure all customers who have or are currently experiencing instability symptoms on their 13th and/or 14th Gen desktop processors are supported in the exchange process. This includes working with Intel’s retail and channel customers to ensure end users are taken care of regarding instability symptoms with their Intel Core 13th and/or 14th Gen desktop processors.

That looks like an exchange program to me.

I’ll update my bios but it doesn’t matter anymore. I feel like it’s a physical issue that’s only going to be masked by these minor patches

Not to mention LGA 1700 is a dead platform with no upgrade path.

I’m gonna sell my cpu and mobo and just get a 7800x3d

As a person running the 7800x3d, it is a beast of a chip

You will be happy with it, but I’d still get the exchange.

unfortunately there are no signs of recalls, it appears to have been caused by an oxidation manufacturing issue and high voltage, unfortunate for 13th gen and 14th gen cpus (fortunately mobile chips arent affected)

Recall is different from an exchange. But it looks like an exchange will be on offer.

Give them your old broken chip, and get a nice new working one.

Yeah, thinking about trying for a refund/return.
