If there was no hero swapping then there should be a draft phase etc.
Just disabling hero swapping as is would not be a good option.
Banning swaps would make overwatch another step closer to paladins. Lets take it easy here for a second.
Stadium kind of highlights what its like to be locked into a comp vs another comp that is clearly at an advantage (just at an exaggerated level).
Yeah the biggest issue is that bans are such a game changing concept for a game that never had the balls to implement it that there is going to be a period of growing pains.
People have gotten way too used to both onetricking and scapegoating into bad mediocre heroes like Mercy and Symmetra, and both of those are not compatible with bans.
They got used to one tricking because a lifetime ago in game years, the devs said one tricking is perfectly valid.
This is also a business, not an esports fairness comission whos raison d’etre is to make the most fair and competitive game ever, so the cynic in me says that one tricks probably also spent the most money, thus their reluctance with hero bans would stem from something that makes more sense than just being timid.
Sometimes reluctance to commit to an obvious choice makes sense when there are other factors other than the gameplay itself.
I’ll tell you what i’d do - not mess with my cash flow, I don’t care about the spirit of competition if my company performance takes a hit. In business, I’m a Ferengi.

Banning swapping would be even worse, one of the worst aspects of stadium is the fact you can easily get stomped due to certain heros (looking at you 76) without a direct counter.
you know full well that is never going to change, which is why hero bans must go.

nope. i was always opposed to hero bans. ever since the first time toxic whiny streamers got blizzard to add them.
it’s not needed and will ruin what’s fun about stadium
this is because zarya is busted and dva is unplayable, not because countering NEEDS to be a thing in stadium, they could easily fix it with REAL powers and items for dva instead of the NOTHING she now gets. nanodva was an answer, but they gutted that.

that’s a problem with balance that hero locking would force them to fix.
Stadium already covers these… no hero swapping and no hero bans, but plenty of character build customization to fill in the gaps!
Just do what I do and leave standard comp with its hero bans behind.
unfortunately blizzard says they plan to ruin stadium with hero bans, and even worse, drafts. i was fine leaving it alone, even abandoned comp entirely for stadium till they made dva completely unplayable in stadium, but now it seems hero bans will ruin that too so there is no escaping it.
When did it die the first time?
the first time they did hero bans, queue times spiked every time mercy was banned cause her mains just quit for the week. no one likes not being able to play their hero. when hero bans come to stadium, and people don’t have a sanctuary from hero bans anymore, they will just drop the game.

Here’s the funny part:
Streamers didn’t ask for hero pools nor did anyone else.
Now do tell me why that happened under hero pools and not under hero bans (which have just been introduced for the first time)
No, hero swapping is a core part of Overwatch and being forced to play a character who gets railed by all 6 enemy players is awful. That’s my one problem with Stadium.
Bans get rid of problem characters, like Sombra being in the 9th ring of Hell permanently (even when she is an utter garbage hero and there’s like 5 other BETTER choices to ban). Plus it forces one-tricks to actually play the rest of the game.
When that happens I’ll be done with comp for good. What’s next, QP and Arcade?
