hero bans are going to kill the game, AGAIN, and we only got them AGAIN because toxic streamers whined and whined and would not stop whining.
now we’re also going to get drafts, an even WORSE idea, because again toxic streamers are whiny and they think people PLAYING WHAT THEY WANT TO PLAY is the worst thing in the game.
blizzard needs to stop tinkering with hero select and just lock in our hero picks already. stadium proves the game is A HUNDRED TIMES MORE FUN if the enemy team CAN’T build their team comp around yours. let them build their perks (in comp), and their builds (in stadium) around us instead.
instead of deleting sombra and mercy from the game with hero bans, 99% of the problems would be solved if the enemy who does NOT main sombra could NOT swap to her to cheese your doom/ball. or the enemy who does NOT main pharah could NOT swap to her and pressure their support to go mercy to pocket them, because they noticed you have no hitscan.
I don’t recall any of the streamers demanding them. They all would have said they’d be a good idea. But bans has been probably the most requested feature for a good few years now.
Actually, we got them because Marvel Rivals gave the devs the confidence boost to add hero bans. The idea of hero bans has been floating around for years. We’ve needed them for a long time.
I doubt this. Hero bans allow players to curate their own competitive experience. We don’t want to play against heroes who are overpowered or fundamentally broken. Sombra players seem to be having the hardest time accepting that their hero is strongly disliked by the community.
Stadium isn’t for everyone. That’s why comp should remain comp, and Stadium should remain Stadium.
Something tells me that every hero you just named already has a pretty high ban rate. If Sombra is getting banned every game, then it’s not just Doomfist/Wrecking Ball players banning Sombra. The same thing can be said about Pharah and Mercy. It’s not just projectile players banning those two.
they 100% were working on it for years, and they 100% did it because of same i oto rants and whining for a decade, and others
yeah, sorry, just letting players completely delete heroes from the game entirely is not good game design. you don’t have that right, let’s take it back. a cat choosing was way better because this toxic attitude was predicable.
and bans are coming to stadium too, drafts even cause they want to compensation nerf all the fun they added. remove hero swapping from comp, and drop all plans to add bans or drafts to stadium, remove bans from comp
99.999999999999% of sombras in your games are a swap. ban swaps and you won’t see sombra enough to whine about her.
simple answer no.
elaborated one: they need to introduce normal overwatch comp in stadium format.
first to 4, no swaps, no items, if you really need to, add perks.
Stadium is by itself the best format, if I could have this and play normal overwatch comp at the same time in this Format my life would be fullfilled.
we can argue about the length of the match and/or if there should be a single map version of this.
but winning Multiple different core gamemodes feels the eight thing in my head.
But I also like the shorter single map comp games. just wished it was more like stadium, a tournament feeling.
you want a game mode where we have regular comp but with no hero bans and no swapping. your answer is yes. your separate proposal of bringing the long match first to 4 format of stadium to comp does not change that you agree with my fundamental idea that comp would be more fun without hero bans and with zero swapping.
Letting broken heroes go unchecked is also bad game design. At least with hero bans, I have more control over my own competitive experience.
I seriously doubt any of this is going to happen . You’re basically saying the devs are going to make OW3. Do you have any idea how many players would be turned off by this?
Hero bans aren’t centered around Sombra . Every competitive game has four banned heroes. That means there was something about those heroes that players didn’t want in their game at that particular moment.
this is not my imagination, Aaron made clear they are going to be ruining the game with drafts soon. i don’t know WHO ASKED FOR THIS, but for some reason, they are hellbent on making the entire game about the hero select and ruining it with overtinkering, to compensation nerf all the fun they just added.
math does not care about your feelings. sombra is literally banned in a supermajority of all games now. she has been deleted completely, and will never come back no matter how many changes they make to her. bans have failed, time to admit it and delete the second experiment.
This is not my experience. I’ve played with many Sombras who lock right away and OT the entire game. Between seasons 10-12 Sombra was in almost every game. Boring stuff right there.
And Banning swaps goes against a core mechanic of OW. If that’s how you want it, just play Stadium
If you really need to play Sombra, there’s still quickplay
They have only failed you and the Sombra mains. Everyone else seems like they’re doing fine
No thanks, OP. I would rather not lose the game on the character select screen because I happened to pick the wrong character. I would rather a couple of tanks get banned instead to derail full-on counterswapping spirals.
I suspect Mercy bans are only a fact of life at the highest ranks. As for Sombras, well… while I don’t vote for her myself, if this many people loathe her to this extent then it’s only fair that people get to ban her. Sombras will just have to take it on the chin for everybody else’s sake.
this will just end their laziness on the “balance all heroes to have no hard counters” front. hero bans and hero swapping are a shortcut. if they ended hero swapping they would have to give us heroes with far less lopsided weaknesses, and stronger perk choices for dealing with counters
false, mercy and sombra are banned in every game and in every rank. and “one character will just have to accept deletion” is not an option, sorry. the toxics don’t decide this game, and empowering them was wrong.
Blizzard states the Stadium is stompier than they would like. They also want to improve the mercy feature to end games early. That points to the fixed heroes, no swapping, being problematic, not being a benefit.
Not being able to swap will just have people give up as soon as they see the enemy team comp and realise they are 100% countered and waiting it out to go next.
The game’s been out for almost a decade and Sombra is still universally hated. If they were capable of changing matters, they would have done it by now.
So instead, we get some tools to deal with the excesses. Hero bans for now, possibly map bans/vetoes later. It is the best of a bad situation.
i would have been fine with them NOT tinkering with hero select, and just tinkering with balance to delete hard countering, but here we are. if we MUST tinker with hero select, just lock it.
That doesn’t fix that you are still countered. It fixes that it is deliberate, but it doesn’t fix the fact that some heroes just counter others too much.
If I come out on tank and see that the other team has 4 or 5 counters and my team doesn’t counter anything on their team, how good a game do you think that’s going to be? How hard do you think my team is going to try?
At least with swapping you can swap if they counter you. Both teams still have an equal chance of winning if players make better choices. With your idea, the game will be decided out of spawn more than half the time. How is that more fun?
