In what world does this make sense? I see people EVERYWHERE complain about DPS being instalocked, and then they’re left with their roles.
First off, if you say its their fault you’re losing, you’re not always right on that. It is a TEAM game. ANY member of your team can cause a loss, or a snowball into a loss.
Second, if you claim the instalock DPS are stopping you from picking DPS, would you be complaining about not getting DPS if you came into the game LOOKING TO LOCK DPS? There are apparently PLENTY of people instalocking DPS, so why don’t you do it?
Even then, if they lock DPS, it does NOT mean they don’t care about winning. I instalock DPS and sit in my chair until the round starts. I just want to be guaranteed a spot on the DPS hero I’m best at and if anyone else happens to play it better than I do they can have it.
How does it make sense that you think you shouldn’t care because they instalocked DPS and they ‘suuuurely’ don’t give a damn about winning?
If you were to do that, you’d be throwing as much as they were in your eyes, or even more. Those DPS could be trying their best, and giving it their all and you’re picking Torbjorn so you can just throw turret into useless spots and feed or jump off the map? Why sacrifice a perfectly good role to pick when it could POSSIBLY help your team win?
Because if I instalock a dps it means we dont have a healer or a tank and we are fighting an up hill battle.
I’m not special for playing support and I never claim to be, but once in awhile its nice to get to fill a different role.
Every game I play has 3 or 4 dps instalocks and before when you could check profiles, these people would have hundreds of hours on dps characters and minutes on supports and tanks.
I mean people say “just cause you pick first doesnt mean you should get DPS” but I’m yet to see someone come up with a better way to go about it. And people are usually willing to give it up when people ask.
I think the answer your looking for is in your own Rant.
There are people willing to adjust but to a limit. For example you enjoy playing DPS but you never get the opportunity to, eventually you hit that limit.
In an ideal situation everyone asks what they want to do and then compromise on who plays what. Instalocking a role means you are not willing to even come to the table to compromise.
I have been in so many great Comp games where with teams decided what role they wanted to try and were friendly enough to switch between rounds.
That is real team work.
Instalocking? Just selfishness.
I’ve started doing it because I don’t like tanking and I really want some time on the DPS characters. I mean, I have over 200 hours on supports and less than 50 on everyone else. I want to play DPS too sometimes, and I know I’m probably not going to get to do that unless I instalock first.
Why can’t they ? I also want to play other heroes too, so why can’t I play what I want ? When they can ?
“instalocking” doesn’t mean anything. People will just pick what they want/can play, because you have no further information to go by at the start of a game anyway.
It’s easier to build a team comp when everyone locks the hero/role they want to play, than sit and wait around until the last 5 seconds because 3 players are having a Mexican standoff on the hero select screen.
The only thing that’s important with “instalocks” is the willingness to swap if necessary; but that willingness is not always there, so people get upset about it.
I’ll fill if the rest of the team is willing to play 2-2-2, or I’ll solo heal if the team has 2 tanks.
But I’m not tanking if the team only has 1 healer. I’m not a tank player already, and having 1 healer makes it that much more miserable to play - so no thank you.
Here is a little story from a game I had not too long ago.
I enter and 5 people pick DPS. Initial lineup was Hanzo, Ashe, Widowmaker, Doomfist and Junkrat.
I decide to go healer to bring just a bit of healing to the table, but since there is no way any of the picked heroes will be able to protect, I go Moira to take advantage of her ability to stay alive without needing outside help.
The game is payload push and while we dont win, against my expectations we reach the final point and nearly get it on.
We dont though and after the match, what is one of the messages I get from another team member? “Please never play healer again.”
I would say that sums up why most people might decide to just go DPS as well when everyone else is doing it.
Welcome to solo overwatch, lol.
Here’s a foreign concept for you, picking DPS at the start of the game doesn’t prevent you from switching to tank/healer when someone else picks DPS after you. If you want healers and tanks, then set the example.
4-5 instalocked dps means I play Torb. This way at least we have 7 shooting players and The turret and I will at least get some kills.
I am frikken tired of healing 5 dps. I really am. So you will get my symm and then you can cry about “we need a healer” for all I care.
They are not willing to help me, so I won’t even bother to flex for them. Forget it.
This has to stop, really. It is not my job to become a healslave for 5 dps who need to get carried by a symmetra of all things, but who don’t even do the most basic thing to help me heal them like be in line of sight or peel for me.
I hate when someone waits until the last second and picks something we dont need. if you’re going to do that, just do it early and leave spawn so the rest of us can figure it out, so that we dont have a solo heal zen for the first fight
im a tank main and my friend I play with is a healer main. when the randoms give us 4 dps, he picks lucio and I pick hog/hammond/monkey and everyone just does their own thing.
instead of flaming, my friend always says, “this can work if you are all good at the hero you picked and pop off.” which is true.
I’ve picked zen early before others have picked their characters, but nobody else goes second healer or even tank and then they have the nerve to complain about my heals later on. :’)
I’m still not a heal slave to 4 dps groupies who can’t do anything on their own. Heck, I’ve had 5 stack all pick dps. I’ve solohealed on mercy for these 5 dps groupies for so many times I no longer won’t. It’s not worth the pain and frustration trying to herd these headless chickens every single game.
my favorite thing is when my teammates pick 4 dps and a healer and I pick hog and then they complain ‘can you switch to a shield’
4 ppl pick DPS, I pick Rein, and other person picks healer.
Halfway thru attack with no progress. ‘Rein you are pathetic and keep dying all the time. KYS’
Next Game - instalock DPS and turn off chat. Win.
Overwatch - a ‘team’ game with no actual team mechanics!
I don’t care about DPS instalocks 1&2.
#3 is a little eyebrow raising.
#4 I suck my teeth alittle bit.
at #5 I laugh and even if I’ve already picked tank I type “just make sure we kill alot of stuff,” and switch to DPS #6.
I’ve already suffered enough through trying to heal 5 instalock DPS players and getting insulted for not doing good enough.
So I’ll just go DPS too if I see the whole team is doing that.
